Programs: 21st century afterschool program, serving k-8 students at ps 106 and is 127 in parkchester. Activities involved homework help, tutoring, arts exposure, science, theatre, music, recreation. Parent involvement workshop and family counseling and assistance is provided. Srco serves about 280 students.

the attendance improvement/dropout prevention program at renaissance high school, within the lehman high school complex, works closely with a cohort of 50+ students. These students have a history of poor attendance and academic performance. Two master's level staff members (guidance counseling) use various means to insure that the students attend school and improve their academic performance. This is accomplished through home visits, phone calls, individual and small group counseling, and special events as incentives. This intergenerational initiative matches senior citizen and high school teen, one-on-one, and they share life experiences. Those experiences are then recorded and written as an anthology after 8-90 minute sessions. Throughout the year, other intergenerational events take place with seniors and srco's client population. The seniors come from parkchester's senior center. Parent and young children, ages 6 months to 3 years, meet and play together in structured activities 5 days per week. Singing, dancing, organized games and children's social activities are held with each session. Additionally, there is a period where parents read to their child each session. The healthy families program provides individual and family support services through referral-based case management. One case manager (catholic charities) provides assistance to a minimum of 100 clients and their families. The actual number served last fiscal year was 156. Clients came from the community boards 9 and 10. They received assessment, referrals and follow-up until their goals were met.
