I have been using the SPS forum since it began in 2009. I have found the members to be extremely knowledgeable on all things spine, as well as other related problems. Unlike other forums I have been a visitor of, this forum has NO hidden agenda and everyone truly welcomes everyone.

I began researching spine surgery and was completely overwhelmed and frustrated. I had just been told at age 28 and after 2.5 years of trying every conservative treatment under the sun, that I would never have more children or work again and needed chronic pain management for the rest of my life. I had no idea where to go and quite frankly was extremely depressed about it. I received not only support in researching treatment options; but also more emotional support than I could have ever dreamed of. To have people who were living the same circumstances as me, who truly understood and empathized with what I was going through, was wonderful. They supported me through finding great surgeons, deciding on treatments and helped me navigate the long road of recovery. They reassured me that I had made the right decision and that the post surgical issues were normal and that it would get better. So many times I wanted to throw in the towel and they were right there for me. No one can truly understand the life of a spine patient unless they are one or have been one.

I'm now completely healed from surgery, 100% pain free and was able to have another child after ADR surgery, like I had wanted so badly. I can't think of anywhere or anyone else that could have helped me like this great group and the people who contribute to it did. There is a light at the end of the tunnel and this group can help you find it.

I would recommend this group to anyone seeking treatment options, needing guidance, opinions, wanting post surgical support or just needing people who understand what you are going through. I have sent several friends and family members to this group. In several cases, they have proven to be correct about something that even my doctor didn't know (obviously it is not medical advice and you need to get that from your doctor). It's s great resource to research & prepare you for treatments, helping you know what to ask your doctor, what is normal and what is not.

I've been a member of SPS since its inception. Although a member of 2 other spine patient support forums, both had agendas that frequently took precedence over the well being of the patients seeking advice and knowledge.

Spine Patient Society was formed by spine patients for spine patients. It strongly resists efforts by "medical tour guides" to promote their services and surgeons of choice. These guides generally don't have the patient's best interests in mind. They actually attempt to prevent patients from finding the proper care in order to make monry.

Justin Averna was instrumental in providing the information I used to make the decision for the course of action I took to repair my lumbar spine. 3 years ago I was being pushed to take disabilitry retirement by my employer. On my last review, I was singled out as "performing with distinction".

The mission of Spine Patient Society is simple, to assist patients in finding information that will enable them work with their physician to make a correct, infromed decision on ta successful course of treatment.
