Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Civil Rights, Community & Neighborhood Development, Economic Development

Mission: The stated purpose of swop is to empower the disenfranchised in the southwest to realize racial and gender equality, and social and economic justice.

Programs: In fiscal year 2012, accomplishments of the southwest organizing project included a full year of data collected from a community based air monitoring program that included residents in mesquite, nm, and the san jose neighborhood of albuquerque; successful implementation of a summer youth internship program; the launch of our second year of feed the hood farms, a micro-farming project; and a get out the vote campaign to engage our constituents in our democracy. We also engaged our members in a broad range of public activities designed to build their leadership to affect change that benefits their communities. Our efforts were designed to build leadership, spur civic engagement, and improve the environmental and economic wellbeing of low-income communities of color.
