Mission: South carolina educational communications, inc. ("scec") supports and promotes south carolina educational public media activities including the development and use of a variety of media for educational purposes and for support of the arts. The activities of scec have been established in order to assist and further the purposes of the etv endowment of south carolina, inc. And south carolina etv. Scec also engages in entrepreneurial activities associated with educational endeavors.
Programs: Ancillary - distance education programs: south carolina educational communications partners with converse college, an accredited, liberal arts college, to offer 21 online graduate level mathematics and ela education courses. These courses are intended for certified teachers who are seeking recertification and include graduate-level mathematical pedagogy and math content for the elementary, middle level and secondary teacher. A limited number of these courses can also be used toward a graduate degree at converse college. Scec also offers an additional seven online professional development mathematics courses for teacher advancement credit. During fy17, scec processed a total of 706 graduate level and 143 professional development course registrations.
television production expenses: scec produces and/or presents programs used by scetv for broadcast locally on scetv's three statewide channels and nationally on pbs and its affiliate stations. These programs are funded in part by restricted grants from foundations, corporations and individuals as well as state and federal governmental entities. Scec, along with the etv endowment of south carolina and south carolina etv, also contributes substantial in-kind gifts to ensure program completion and distribution. During fy17, 18 programs were in production. Since its founding in 1982, scec has managed more than $113 million in restricted program production grants

Scec, along with the etv endowment of south carolina and sc public radio, also contributes substantial in-kind gifts to ensure program completion and distribution.
