I first joined Smiles on Wings as a mission volunteer in July 2011 and was inspired by the passion of both the dental professionals and the general volunteers! This organization has incredible impact - since 2003, Smiles on Wings has conducted over 20 dental missions to Thailand, built a permanent dental clinic, and provided full scholarships for higher education degrees in education and healthcare. I definitely plan to be involved with the organizations general operations as a volunteer for years to come!

Smiles on Wings was one of the first organization’s on the ground helping after the 2004 Tsunami and since then has continued the mission of its founder, Dr. Usa Bunnag, a Thai-American dentist, to not only provide basic dental care to those in need (primarily children), but provide scholarships to educate young women and orphans who can then help carry on positive health practices in their communities. Dr. Bunnag has truly been visionary and tireless in her efforts and as a result there is now a permanent dental clinic in Southern Thailand where the Tsunami left many orphans, and there are many healthy smiles among children in Northern, remote villages that Smiles on Wings serves. Each time Smiles on Wings returns to Thailand you can see improved dental health and awareness, but there are still many who walk miles to get help. Dr. Bunnag’s huge heart and desire to be of service have inspired many volunteers, from all over the world, to help—dentists, technicians, educators, staff, and others. Smiles on Wings has also funded full scholarships for a number of young women, who have now graduated with advanced health and teaching degrees and are serving their communities year round.
