Causes: Arts & Culture, Opera
Mission: To present operatic performances principally in the schools in and around the area of fresno, california, thereby to encourage the musical education of the youth in the community and to build audiences for cultural events.
Programs: During the year, we performed our current one-act opera "too many chefs! " 102 times. We performed for 30,120 students and teachers and distributed to them 5,000 copies of our educational booklet. (the booklet also appears in its entirety, along with a recording of all the music from the opera, on our website at www. Sierrachamberopera. Org). The booklets were delivered to the schools in advance of the performance to enhance the audience's understanding of the music and drama of opera. We issued a semiannual newsletter which goes to 450 contributors and other interested people in the community. The public acceptance of our work increases, as do the understanding of our audiences and our contributions from individuals.
