Causes: Arts & Culture, Arts & Humanities Councils & Agencies
Mission: SRAC works tirelessly to maximize access to the ARTS in Shreveport and the 9 surrounding rural parishes (counties) by equipping artists and arts organizations to create a cultural community through Art and Arts programming; that which improves education, community building, transportation, housing, workforce development, social services and entrepreneurial opportunities.
Results: Our most recent project is keeping the Arts at the helm of turning a currently blighted, nine-block area - SHREVEPORT COMMON - to a multi-faceted, publicly and privately partnered, Creative Community at the edge of Shreveport’s H.U.D. Choice Neighborhood. SRAC has been the lead organization and “project manager,” pulling together over 30 major partners to and 36 major projects that will drive and sustain a new Cultural Economy in downtown Shreveport.
Programs: Artbreak - annual festival in celebration of the arts. Features artwork and performances by local school children and professionals.
artspace - activities which provide a multi-disciplinary inter-generational arts center open to the public.
other programs include decentralized arts funding; regrants, panels and other programs - provide grants and technical assistance to art organizations and artists. Also, promotion of the arts.
