Causes: Mental Health, Sexual Assault Services
Mission: To provide support, education and advocacy to empower all individuals and families affected by sexual trauma and engage and mobilize the community to prevent sexual violence.
Programs: Advocacy - advocacy services include hotline, hospital and criminal justice advocacy. Star prvides a 24 hour resource and support hotline and is staffed by trained sexual trauma advocates. Callers can receive crisis intervention counseling, support and referrals by calling the hotline. Hospital advocates are available 24/7 to assist survivors and their loved ones immedialtely after trauma occurs or when referrals or information is needed. Star also prvides advocates to accompany survivors through the reporting process and court proceedings during the criminal justice process.
support - star support services include short term individual counseling, therapy groups and support groups offered to survivors and thier loved ones. Star also provides a 24 hour support and resource hotline. Support groups for survivors of sexual trauma are provided. Star, in partnership with outher civic groups, offers survivor retreats in the spring and fall. These day-long retreats include art therapy, yoga and labyrinth walking.
education - star offers training and violence prevention programs to schools and organizations. The curricula offered are: careageous kids, teaching respect, understanding safety and tolerance (trust), safe dates, bystander: do we step in or away? , darkness to light: stewards of children, and sexual trauma 101.
