Mission: Seven star women's kung fu teaches self defense and the art of kajukenbo to women in seattle. We represent four generations of women teaching women in the martial arts. For over 33 years we have enabled women to learn self defense and train in the martial arts by offering free childcare to moms while they train, asl interpreting, scholarships, sliding scale monthly dues based on income, and free community self defense classes.
Programs: Programs. Seven star is dedicated to the empowerment of women through martial arts and self defense. We have a number of programs in place to facilitate women training in the martial arts. Monthly dues are based on a sliding scale. Scholarships are available for ongoing training and special workshops. Moms can take advantage of free, onsite childcare during classes. Sign language interpreters make classes and tests more accessible for our deaf students. We go out into the community to teach self-defense workshops free of charge. We have never turned a woman away due to an inability to pay.
self defense program. Our mission and programs include a commitment to self defense, particularly for women and girls (age 12+). In 2014, seven star women's kung fu taught 18 self defense workshops to over 200 men, women, and children. We teach self defense in the community with community partners, at-risk populations, corporate groups, and small groups. Our students volunteer their time to teach and assist at workshops. We also offer a 3-week self defense program at our school quarterly.
demonstrations and publicity. Seven star women's kung fu marched in the annual seattle pride march (june 2014). This event includes tens of thousands observers and media coverage. We performed at the annual pawma (pacific association of women martial artists) camp held in august 2014 in turner, or in front of approximately 150 people. The school also participates periodically in local community neighborhood events as requested or in partnership with other local nonprofit organizations.
continuing education events. Throughout the year, we invite guest instructors to visit our school and share in their knowledge and experience. This includes instructors within our lineage as well as teachers from different schools and martial arts styles. Members of our school and teachers are encouraged to attend martial arts camps offered locally and regionally. Seven star offers scholarships to students to enable them to attend these camps.
