Scooby North America DOES NOT exist any longer. The nonprofit dissolved approximately 6-8 months ago. I have adopted 2 Galgo hounds from Scooby in Spain and used the help of SNA for the first one. They dissolved and I used another agency for the second one.

I heard about Scooby and the galgo plight via the internet. I contacted the representative and found out how desperate the need was for volunteers. I was given a lot of necessary paperwork to fill out (yes, personal info, but needed to insure that the volunteers are qualified to deal with traumatized dogs and the dire situation at Scooby that could be shocking to some people ). Arrangements were made with efficiency and due diligence. Even housing at Scooby was provided.
Scooby itself is amazing. They spend every penny on the animals and the staff is dedicated and are the most hard working individuals I have ever met. They work under conditions that seem impossible, handling over 500 dogs, most that are traumatized and need medical and emotional healing. All of their effort is done with volunteer work and donations. A shining example of when hearts are committed to change the world.

I adopted two galgos through Scooby North America and Forever Home Greyhounds (their partner). Without their organization, it would be too costly for adoption groups to organize trips for the hounds. Spain has an overabundance of galgo hunting dogs, and there is a comfortable market for them in the U.S.

My heart was set on adopting a Galgo, a breed of hound dog bred in Spain and used to hunt. Learning of the horrible conditions these hounds are born into, live through, and die from laid a very heavy burden on my heart to do something. And adopting one of these beautiful dogs was something, a very big something for me!
I was told about Scooby North America and sought their guidance through the entire adventure, and I have the most wonderful little Galga, Hermosa, living with me and my husband and our 2 other hounds, retired racing Greyhounds Phoenix and Apple. Eve and Diane did so much for me and I am thankful to them for giving me the support to make the trip perfect and with out incident. There was traveling involved from the airport to the shelter and back, crate issues to transport my girl in, a health issue of my chosen Galgo that I needed to learn more about, and just knowing what to expect and the customs of the Spanish community where I was staying during my visit. Eva and Diane from Scooby North America took time and had patience with me and made sure I understood all that I was about to begin before I ever left for Spain.
I am forever grateful to Scooby North America for the assistance I received.
