Hire Our Heroes

I completed a 6-month internship through Hire Our Heroes with Tesla. I was extremely overqualified for the position I held. I worked as a Service Technician during the internship. After about 6 weeks in the position, I began outperforming the full-time technicians. Three months in, I became a trainer for their new technician hires while performing Technician duties. I serviced an average of 3-4 vehicles daily, doing specialized services such as suspension component replacement, retrofits, recalls/bulletins, firmware updates, dozens of wheel alignments, windshield replacements, wiring harnesses, tires, and AC servicing. You name it. I feel like my skills and labor were exploited. I worked 8 hours a day Monday through Friday (I stopped attending Friday Huddles) and sometimes later to complete customer cars. At the end of the 6 months, I didn't have a job offer. I didn't have an advocate. I was just free labor. Nicole Holling, the Program Manager, was not helpful and poorly represented Hire Our Heroes during my initial session. Her attitude did change toward me later by just not contacting me. Nicole just seemed extremely overwhelmed by her position.

The Hiring our heroes fellowship is a joke because they can’t cater to the needs of Active duty military who are being medically discharged.
Because the folks being medically discharged are on an unpredictable timeline, it is nearly impossible for the Chain of Command to approve the folks for the fellowship.

And sometimes the Chain of Command doesn’t want to release the folks wanting to go on a fellowship for their own reasons.

Some of the program managers for HOH also have lofty egos and get butthurt pretty easily because they got everything presented to them on a silver platter and are unaware of real life struggles at the grassroots level. Er*c P*tt is one of them.


So as I have described above, some poor people will definitely fall through the cracks and come out of the Army with no plan. These guys will be on their own.

Plus the HoH chapters are miserable at some bases. There is no consistency in the approval process. You are on your own if your local HOH is worse than others. The HOH at Fort Bragg could approve an application and Fort Bliss could deny the same application.

There is some discrimination too when considering applications.

It is vital to hire the right people to represent your company because one rotten employee can create distrust in the company, and people will begin to associate the qualities of that lousy employee with quality products, services, or information that the company offers. This behavior was my experience with Ni***e H*l***g, a Hiring Our Heroes Program Manager. From the first impression and throughout several follow on interactions, she came off as very condescending. She's very insecure and has a fragile ego that encourages her to act as if she is more prominent and intelligent than to whom she speaks, forcing her to talk down and point blame at her clients unknowingly. It is like a weird coping mechanism. I can't be the only person that has experienced this with her. Her ego and continuous Karen-like behavior drove me away from Hiring Our Heroes. I am so glad I no longer have to deal with her.

My application for this program went smooth and the individuals who were pushing my case were awesome. A month before my skill bridge was supposed to begin, the manager over Alaska denied me the opportunity to continue. She told me "Because there was not a full time position at the end of my skill Bridge time line she would not allow me participate". She said " We are so proud of our 93% average from our military getting jobs after their program ends and we don't want to loose that high percentage". I checked with our local education office and they said that a job/position did need to be available for hire but it did not specify if it needed to be full time or part time. The worst part, There was a part time position available at the end of my Skill bridge date. They are padding their numbers. I showed the JBER education office this information and now they are warning people about the HOH program.

Hire Our Heroes assisted me to get into a program which allowed me to find a meaningful career. This gave me a way to take care of my family which I was struggling to do after leaving the military.

A wonderful nonprofit organization that helps our veterans during their career transition.

Hire Our Heroes is a great non-profit who is genuinely interested in assisting veterans find meaningful careers. I would recommend them to anyone who is either looking for assistance or looking for a great cause to support.

Top notch training material, that is well worth the time investment. there is literally something for everyone. Thank you for this opportunity to continually improve and evolve my skills portfolio.

This site is Phenomonal. I haven't been able to use it recently much but it's been a miracle worker for people like me that need the training to brush up on newer tech and available career enhancing products!

Tara Bell is a phenomenal transition specialist. She assisted me with a variety of services that were useful for my transition from military to civilian. She answered her phone and responded to my text messages promptly. I was able to receive mutliple job offers from her guidance and mentorship.

I just recently received a free round trip flight for an out of state job interview from Hire Our Heroes. I cannot say enough good things about this organization and the people who work there.

From the very beginning the cards were not in my favor as the timeline was incredibly tight. However, Margi at HOH pulled the rabbit out of her hat! I received constant communication and updated about the status of my application. I received phone calls and emails on weekends and evenings with a three hour time difference to update me or request more info.

It came down to the wire, but when she saw how close the timeline was getting, Margi had me schedule my flight for the evening and next-day-aired the tickets to me and had them scheduled for an AM delivery. she provided me with the transit number so I could track their delivery all the way to my doorstep. I received the tickets the morning of my flight!

It took a lot of work and coordination to meet my demands, but HOH made it happen, and I got two job offers out of the deal. I can't thank them enough and I highly recommend them to any and all transitioning servicemembers who need to travel for employment interviews.

I had the pleasure of working with Tara Bell who took the time to have a detailed discussion with me regarding the transition process and my future career goals. This is one of the best non-profits out there. I worked with Lori and she helped me set up my resume, find job search engines, and also helped me with some personal issues along the way. Wow! I have never personally experienced a better demonstration of selfless service. I was emailed for an interview for my dream job on a Wed for a Mon interview. I figured it was too short notice for Margi and her team to help get me Southwest airline tickets for the interview but she worked so hard that evening until about 9:30 pm and secured the tickets that night and got them to me in two days. I had the tickets in hand Saturday morning and flew out the next day. I had an amazing experience with Hire Our Heroes, my SouthWest flights were also very enjoyable and my interview was the best one I've had to this point. Thank you guys and I look forward to being able to give back to you in the near future.

Hire Our Heroes is phenomenal! I was asked to fly from Miami to Washington, DC for a final job interview with the Department of Veterans Affairs, and HOH got me a plane ticket within days, and at NO CHARGE!

I worked with Margi, and she was awesome! She mentioned in passing that she doesn't even get paid, it's a completely volunteer workforce working to find transitioning servicemembers, veterans, and Reservist/ National Guardsmen meaningful employment.

My name is SFC Kory Morris and I wanted to take the time to share my experience with Hire Our Heroes.

I am a former Special Forces soldier (Green Beret) who lives in Raeford, NC and currently transitionING from military to civilian life.

I was recently contacted by the TSA (Transportation Security Administration )for an Airport Assessment Interview, but the opportunity was in Tampa, FL and there was no way I would make it in time driving.

I would have had to pass on the opportunity, but my Care Coalition representative Sean Rooney knew about the HOH and the awesome work they were doing and contacted them on my behalf.

Within a few hours I was contacted by Hire Our Heroes (Margi Sockel) and giving my information to submit a request and subsequently my flight information. Hire Our Heroes paid for my flight to get to the interview location on time and I am currently 2 hours and 40 minutes from actually being interviewed.

None of this would have been possible without the kindness of the HOH staff and those who made donations. Thank you for this opportunity and this blessing that you have given to my family to make a successful transition into the civilian job market. You have given us a reason to believe that there is still genuine kindness and goodness in the world. This is why I felt the need to pay it forward and share my experience with this awesome, top notch organization.

Hire Our Heroes (HoH) is outstanding organization empowering veterans to be successful in finding meaningful employment after serving our country!

I stumbled upon HoH using a Google search and took a chance as my career search seemed to be going nowhere as my retirement date got closer. Amanda, an HoH volunteer, reviewed my resume, provided great feedback that I put into action. Within just a week I was interviewing with a company with a great opportunity for employment. Shortly after the phone interviews, I was invited out for a face to face interview with a well known company. I contacted Margi at HoH, told her about the opportunity and she helped me with the airline ticket to go to the interview. The week prior to traveling to the interview, I was offered yet another job opportunity in the same city! I traveled to my interviews compliments of HoH and Southwest Airlines and I interviewed with both companies the same day. Upon returning from the interviews a day later, I had offers from both companies!

I have accepted one of the offers with a great company and I owe so much to HoH! They provided me with the tools, knowledge, guidance to be successful in my job search and interviews. Additionally, when those opportunities showed great promise, they even made sure I could travel there to take advantage of the opportunities!

Amanda and Margi have stayed in contact with me and following up on my progress. The help they provided me on behalf on Hire our Heroes has been priceless! I am forever grateful to HoH for the amazing dedication to helping military veterans be successful in their transition to new careers after the military. I am so excited to start my new career following my retirement and Hire Our Heroes made it possible. I applied for a Federal Acquisition Contractor job working for the Veterans Administration and successfully passed the phone interview stage. They offered me a final interview at the academy located in Fredrick Maryland. I had no clue how I was going to get there because of the job I work now, doesn't allow me to do the extra things in life. I was researching what was the shortest route from South Florida to Maryland and I was looking at a long, 15 hour drive. Then HOH came along. My savior. Margi Sockel verified that I was a Veteran and guided me through a simple process and the end result was phenomenal. HOH confirmed my itinerary and days later I received paper tickets in the mail. I am in total debt to HOH and their sponsors. They saved me 30+ hours in driving and lots of gas money just so I can give it my best at the final interview. Thank you HOH for helping me.

I am blessed and honored to serve as a volunteer for Hire Our Heroes. In finding ways to volunteer, it is often difficult to gage the quality of organization you are volunteering for. HOH is truly non-profit and all of the volunteers give their time to serve our armed forces. Going into this experience, I thought it would be about what I could give back. But I can't even begin to describe what the amazing men and women that I have worked with have given back to me. It is an organization that truly follows the philosophy of "teaching a man to fish" by not just providing material resources, but by assisting them with recognizing the skills they possess.

I am a Marine Corps Veteran of Operation Iraqi freedom, and since the economic downturn I have had trouble finding work that would provide enough to support my family. Recently I had the good fortune of being asked to interview for a position that matched my skills and education; the only issue was, that this interview was out of state, and with limited resources getting to the interview was going to prove very difficult. Fortunately for me, I found Hire our Heroes and I was put in touch with Margi. I can't say how very blessed I am to have had Margi and the Hire our Heroes Team in my corner. Thanks to HOH and Southwest I was able to make it to my interview and back. I have now moved on to the second round of the hiring process and my chances are looking good, thanks to Hire our Heroes. Volunteering for Hire our Heroes provides such a wonderful opportunity for me to use my professional skill set to help veterans in need of assistance. The burden on me is minimal, the schedule flexible, and HOH is really tuned in to matching the needs of veterans to those who can help. Great non profit. Very grass roots organization that makes an impact in the lives of veterans. As a Marine veteran, I know transitioning into the civilian workforce is not an easy task. HOH does a great job of connecting veterans with mentors and companies to GET THEM HIRED!

I'm really glad to be a part of this organization. Not only I am a volunteer Career Transition Specialist but I am a veteran who wished I knew that this organization existed when I was transitioning myself about 11 years. Hire Our Heroes (HOH) was started to assist veterans in the transitioning process and bridge the gap for civilian employment opportunities. After establishing a minimal viable product (MVP) we uncovered that this is a monumental task and it will take a village of volunteers to support this mission. We have also discovered on a larger scale that veterans need to understand who they are and what makes them happy before figuring out a career path. Employers need to be educated on the value that transitioning veterans bring to the table and if they will give our military members an opportunity, they will exceed their wildest expectations. HOH has established some great industry relationships and is making a positive impact for our veterans.

I am an exceptionally busy executive. But I make time to work with Hire our Heroes. Outstanding organization making a real difference in veteran's lives after they leave the military!

Hire Our Heroes is the absolute best Veteran's support nonprofit I have ever found. The staff is not only dedicated, but they all have military experience themselves, which really separates them from the crowd of other Veteran service nonprofits. Hire Our Heroes invests an incredible amount of personal time and energy into each Veteran, helping the Veteran understand what his or her idea career path may be in the civilian world. I am particularly impressed by the free airline tickets (more than 20 flights this year!) Hire Our Heroes have to Veterans to fly them to their civilian job interviews. This is the first non-profit I've seen who is devoted to making sure the entire hiring process for veterans goes smoothly. So many other non-profits focus on small pieces of the puzzle, but Hire Our Heroes tackles the: training, the preparation, interview, business attire, and even transportation to the final interview.

I joined the board because of their mission, but also because the Co-Founder, Dan Caporale has extensive experience in the staffing industry. I'm excited to watch Hire Our Heroes continue to grow and expand!

I was a volunteer for the charity skeet shoot in Maryland this past month. HOH did a great job organizationally, keeping things running smoothly. I really appreciated the opportunity to work along side veterans and wounded veterans. It was a moving day to see our heroes enjoying themselves and relishing in the support of all those that came out to shoot some clays with our nation's finest.

We began this journey with the mindset of helping one veteran at a time. Success to us, even if our doors closed tomorrow, means that we were able to assist just one veteran obtain employment and outfit that individual with the necessary tools to 'fit and win' in today's marketplace.

The military's motto is to leave no man behind, Hire our Heroes intent is to leave no veteran unemployed. We are on are way to fulfilling this goal.

Hire Our Heroes is a passionate and sincere non-profit purely focused on providing "whatever it takes" to assist veterans transitioning from the military to private industry - utlimately to provide them with the requisite knowledge and financial support to "prepare them for professional positions" and to "get them to interviews by providing free transportation [flights] anywhere in the U.S."

I was fortunate to have been asked to provide a full day workshop for 20+ vets currently in the miitary or those that recently discharged - it was a great day. I was able to share my knowledge of what they needed as next steps and the vets reinforced my belief in them as viable candidates with an exceptional work ethic!

An internship was set up for me with the help of Hire Our Heroes co-founder Tim Kirk. I have been working the internship for 6 months and I love it. The experience I have gained and the people I have met along the way will prove to be invaluable in the future. The best thing is I have a job when I retire from the Corps and have the time dedicated to this job to hit the ground running.

I was compelled to help Hire Our Heroes because they have a very unique way of employing veterans that works -- from intensive workshops and training on personal branding to helping fly (that's right, fly) veterans to job interviews across the country. In my short 8-week volunteer experience with HOH, they were able to help 5 veterans launch their careers with very impressive organizations. The board and the hard-working volunteers feel very passionate about this work and their feelings are contagious!

Not just a job!

At HOH, the goal is not to find transitioning vets a job. It is also not a place to go write a resume, do some mock interviews or get a color code class on how to dress for success. HOH is where transitioning veterans can go to find "WHO" they are so they are better educated on "WHAT" to do. HOH walks the proverbial mile with the people they help to ensure they also learn "HOW" to do it and "WHERE" to find the right mentorship to finally, on D-DAY (Career transition day) they can "ACT" and find the career path that fits their profile.

Hire Our Heroes (HOH) was founded as a result of the passion that we felt towards giving back to other veterans! HOH is operated by those DEDICATED veterans and HOH Team of personnel who share in our vision to be a premier not-for-profit organization focused on assisting veterans and employers through an AWARENESS campaign to optimize a strategic workforce; be a trusted partner to our veterans and employers by providing “Been There, Done That” MENTORING; delivering innovative TRAINING to employers and veterans; optimize a strategic workforce utilizing our NETWORK which includes world-class organizations who understand the importance behind hiring our transition veterans and are looking for guidance; create a positive INFLUENCE on the lives of veterans and employers which will allow for the replication of assistance for years to come, ultimately assisting with the eradication of veteran unemployment which can only be accomplished through collaborative teamwork.

Hire our Heroes organization is true to their mission statement and intent. I made a referral to them, and within four days, that young veteran was employed. Actions and commitment like this make the difference, the real difference, in the lives of transitioning veteran’s and their families. Thank you, HIRE-OUR-HEROES, for all you do, every day.

I met with Dan not knowing exactly how Hire Our Heroes and PRISM Inc. would work together. We found we had the same mission, to help our Heroes! PRISM Inc. helps by finding our heroes jobs coming out of the military while also providing career counseling and resume consultation. Hire our Heroes has been instramental in referring wonderful people to help fill our expansive network of open jobs. PRISM inc. looks forward to more success in working as a team to fulfill our mission of helping our heroes!

I volunteer for this charity; Hire Our Heroes, the reason that I wanted to get involved was to give to our military veterans, my way of saying thank you to them for their service.
Hire Our Heroes is unique that it includes Veterans helping other Veterans through the transition from military to civilian workforce. As these veterans change out of their uniform, Hire Our Heroes assists them with top Training, Mentoring and Coaching .They accomplish this by offering one-on-one monthly coaching and mentoring sessions by enlisting veterans and volunteers out of Corporate America, networking events, and group training across North America.

They assist veterans with resume writing, social media training, and connecting with employers looking to hire veterans.
The people involved are go getters and anxious to sincerely assist their fellow veterans. Highly recommend getting involved in this organization whether it be volunteering, becoming a trainer or coach or donating to this amazing and inspiring cause!
