Our child has been attending Greenbrook Kids Country for 4 years and loves it. All the staff are friendly and give her a lot of personal attention. They help her with homework and teach her crafts and games. It is so nice to not worry about your child after school as Kids Country is on the school ground. It is also a great place for the summer as they go on many fun and educational field trips. Our child considers Kids Country to be her "home away from home". The staff is easy to talk with about our child and also remembers my name and makes me feel like a friend. I totally recommend Kids Country!

Kids Country is my kids' home away from home. Not only is it safe and beyond clean, but it's a place where kids gain valuable social, academic, and enrichment skills with peers of different age groups and with teachers who care 500%. When I walk into the facility, teachers are ALWAYS engaged with kids. Whether they are supervising, playing, interacting, teaching, or supporting, the staff is approachable to kids and parents alike. There is no question that every staff member wants to be there, cares for our kids, and takes the job of supervision and safety seriously. We will be sad to "graduate" from KC after 8 amazing years. Thank you, Greenbrook KC for offering my kids more than just a "place to be" after school, but rather a second family that has truly cared for their overall well being. You have all been an integral part of helping to support our kids through elementary school, and for that we are eternally grateful. P.S. Awesome Football Program!

Most of the staff is friendly. The children are engaged and the room is managed well. My son loves Kids Country. He doesn't want to leave at pick up. I like how they offer a lunch on days when the school is closed or early departure. It appears to be much cleaner than the previous year. I wish some of the staff was friendlier. Overall it is a fun and safe after school program for kids.

Our second grade son has been going to the Montevideo Campus after his school. It has been a great treat to him that he always asks us to pick him up a little late, so he can enjoy every activity in KC.
We really like the young director, who is always full of energy and enthusiasm. Every staff looks happy and just enjoy being with the kids. It is a joy to see them! I have not seen any kid who is not happy to be there. They are all so much into everything they are doing. Very healthy environment for the kids.

With our first born entering kindergarten we had many reasons to be anxious. Having Kids Country connected to his kindergarten provided good peace of mind. The staff have all been extremely professional and clearly love the children. I am able to go about my workdays knowing that my son is in good hands.

I also had the opportunity to witness first hand how they follow process and procedures when addressing a security concern. As an adult came to pick up a child and was not on the list of authorized persons to pick up that child, the staff was very thorough and took all the appropriate precautions prior to releasing the child to the adult's care. As a concerned parent, this was a relief to see for myself. I have full confidence in the staff of Kids Country that they operate in the best interest of our children.

Oh my goodness, my 5 year old daughter LOVES kid's country. I can't say enough good things about the John Baldwin site. The employees are so kind, attentive, thoughtful, caring and focused on learning, even though it's really not supposed to be an academic environment. They are always so flexible, which is so helpful because my work schedule tends to fluctuate and I often have last minute obligations which require me to alter my daughter's after school care schedule. Kids' Country at Green Valley Elementary has provided a wonderful resource for my kindergartener. I love that she is making friends outside of her class and that she has relaxed social time where she can be creative and have fun. I feel so relieved that she can stay at Kids' Country when I need to be at work and I know she is still in an enriching environment where the teachers are getting to know the students, encouraging them to be kind to each other and responsible, providing them with challenges and also with fun, exciting activities. My child has been attending Kid's Country - Montevideo for the past 4+ years. There seems to be a tremendous amount of turnover with the staff without any communication to the parents. I just come in one morning to a new person responsible for my child. I also don't like the way the hours are reported. I pay a lot of money and often have hours left over, but if there is one month that I go over, I get gouged. The hours aren't updated in the system timely and I don't have the time to go in daily to continually monitor where I am towards my contracted hours. There is also no way to monitor if their manual entry is accurate. Am I expected to look at the sign in/out sheet at the end of the day, calculate the hours and then check the online system when it is finally updated? It should be more transparent with a better breakdown of hours used.
I also have had the experience where there is one child at Kid's Country that is a bully and the only response I get from the teachers when I talk to them is that my child should have told them when it happens. Why does that matter? I am telling you now that it did, it continues to happen and it needs to be addressed. I know this same child has been reported by others in the past.
Finally, this may seem petty but it annoys me. For 4 years, every time they bring in lunch it has been $5/family. I only had one child but I paid the same amount as the family that had 3 children there. This year my younger child has started at Kid's Country, they are going to do lunch and now, this year, it is $5/person. It is annoying. Also, they don't give any advance notice of these types of things, it makes me think that they are rather unorganized.
Why do I stay? For the convenience/safety of having it right on the school grounds.

MontevideoMom – Thank you so much for your honest feedback. I have heard your concerns and would welcome the opportunity to speak with you in person or over the phone at your convenience. Staff turnover is a significant concern of ours as well as in the childcare industry as a whole. I am proud to say that Kids’ County was voted a “Best Place to Work” and a “Top Workplace” in 2014 and our staff turnover has dropped dramatically over the past two years. This is a result of expanded staff development and training programs, staff recognition and increased benefit and wage packages. Hopefully, you will see a positive change in the near future regarding staffing. I understand that the most important service we provide is the interaction between our staff and your child and we want that to be as consistent as possible. In regards to your concerns with our contract structure and timekeeping, that feedback is noted as well. Our Board of Directors (which is made up of parents and community members) reviews the rates and contract structure annually with the goal of offering the most flexible pricing possible while remaining able to cover our costs. Over time, we have found that the seven options for purchasing our services seem to work the best for the majority of our families. Offering “buckets” of hours that can be used how each individual family desires offers quite a bit of flexibility. Those contracts can also be changed on a monthly basis at no charge if changed with some advance notice, (around 3 weeks). We are currently in the process of making a major change to our timekeeping and accounting systems. The change is intended to simplify and automate the sign-in and sign-out process using iPads, as well as the timeliness of updates to the parent portal. Your feedback will be considered as we move forward with this change. I am very sorry to hear that your child experienced a negative interaction with another student while in our care. Unfortunately, those types of interactions do happen. Our goal is to address them individually and with care. Understanding that bullying is a relevant topic in elementary schools today, we have recently identified a group of our staff that feels passionately about resolving those issues in the best and most age-appropriate way possible. This committee will be attending several seminars and will train our entire staff on how to mitigate bullying and address it in the event that it does happen. The first training is coming up at the end of this month and we are very excited to be rolling out this opportunity to all of our staff. You concern regarding the $5 lunches is noted as well. The lunches are intended to be a convenience to families on full care days or during minimum days such as conference weeks. Typically those events are publicized via the site newsletter as well as by posters at the site. I would encourage you to check with your Director to ensure you are on the e-mail list. We have a committee working on our fundraising policies and procedures and I will definitely pass your feedback on to them. Again, I appreciate your honest feedback. Our goal is to provide a positive experience to all of our clients. If you would like to speak to me in person or by phone, please feel free to contact me at slitteral@kidscountry.org or 925-743-3102. Regards, Stacy Litteral Kids’ Country Executive Director

We have had mostly good, and some not so good experiences with Kids Country. Most of it depends on the staff at the time. Our Director Mary Kay is top notch. During the school year, the after school care is fine. Upside: They help the kids with homework and do some creative activities. It's a great place for the kids to visit with one another. Downside: Some of the food that is given to the kids for snack is not so healthy (tater tots, mac and cheese, etc. - I am not happy when my kid won't eat his nutritious dinner because he had seconds on TATER TOTS!) While the $5 lunches are fun, Panda Express, Taco Bell, pizza, spaghetti w/garlic bread and waffles/pancakes/eggs all in one week on top of the "snacks" of tater tots, etc. is a little much i.e. non-nutritious. My son tells me most of the lunches do not come with fruit or veggie. We have had some complaints in the past with some of the Assistant Directors and they have cycles, so right now we are fine as some of them have cycled through the system and all is calm. Mary Kay has always been wonderful, but she can't be there every day, every minute, so be aware of that. Because the "big kids" room does not open until after school lets out, ALL of the kids are in one room in the morning. It is total chaos and LOUD. My child refuses to go in the mornings which is not really all that convenient for me, but I have to agree with my kid that it's too crazy in there before school. Plus that eliminates me worrying about him getting seconds+ on waffles, pancakes, French toast or whatever they are having that morning. Sometimes it is cereal which I am fine with. So what it boils down to is staff/management at the time and food choices that we have had issues with. It is the only child care onsite which limits choices as we parents have. Other childcare facilities simply do not have the manpower/funds to bring your child to school and pick them up after school. I would rate my experience overall for the last 3 years as "OKAY". They have a summer program which some years has been great and others as "meh". We now pick and choose our weeks. The field trips are a lot of fun for the kids though. I give our location a "3".

This is an overpriced daycare with staff who are indifferent tward the children under their care. They advertise that they work closely with students and their teachers to make a successful envoroment for homework but in reality they do not help students who are struggling with assignments, and they don't check to see if the work is done for any of the students.
Additionally, the staff members do not communicate with eachother or the students. More than once my child was not whete she should hav been, and was unaunaccounted for.
They also charge hundreds of dollars extra for any of the enfichment programs they advertise. My child dreds having to go to Kids Country and I don't blame her. Its awful.

Overpriced, greedy, arrogant administrators. At the site level, staff is great. The administration admitted to extorting money from the community the are supposed to serve when I asked why my daughter would be dropped from the program if I did NOT purchase hours for June.
This was the response:As a reminder, Kids’ Country policy states that in order to retain enrollment priority for the following school year, you must be continuously enrolled. Since you dropped June, Caitlyn will be placed on our waiting list.
We will not need a registration fee payment as that is a one-time payment. I have your paperwork for the 2015 – 2016 school year that I will set aside for you until there is a spot available and Caitlyn is re-enrolled.

Kids Country at Vista Grande is amazing. I have never in 4 years seen any member of the staff be anything but delighted to be there and positive which is amazing to me considering all that they do and the numbers of kids they are caring for during the days and evenings. I'm always impressed by the creativity of the activities as well as the crafts and I think it's wonderful that members of the staff actually play with the kids outside. They provide unique and healthy snacks and are very vigilant about safety so I am completely confident that my children have been lovingly and protectively cared for whenever they are there. And, since my child goes somewhat sporadically and I do not always remember to let the staff know if he is coming or not, I get a call every time he doesn't show up to make sure that I have him with me. Truly, they go far above and beyond. I don't think any parent loves having to drop kids off or not being able to care for their children themselves whenever they want to, but since that is not a reality for most families, I am so grateful for the option to have Kids Country at our school and to feel so good about it day after day. I can never thank the staff enough for all that they do each day! I am certain they couldn't possibly be paid enough for their time, effort and compassion.

Kids Country at Montair is a fabulous before and after school program. My daughter loves the staff, friends and activities planned for her daily. The activities aren't just coloring and busy work. They consist of learning activities that challenge my daughter. She literally talks about the program every day when I pick her up! This place has been amazing in the level of care they provide my child. We started using them last year as our daughter was in Kindergarten. Since Kindergarten released well before the bus on certain days, we needed a way to make the day extend a bit. It was a fantastic experience and well worth the money. They picked her up at the classroom door and always seemed to know exactly what was happening with the constantly changing daily schedule of our school's Kindergarten. Now that she's in 1st grade, she loves Kid's Country (as its known on her campus) as much as her actual class. We have an erratic family schedule, but they always are able to accommodate us and check on our daughter's whereabouts when she is absent. This is money well spent.

I understand other comments regarding the minimum hours package; however, I feel that even if my family doesn't quite use all our hours in a month, it is still a good value. I do also appreciate the flexibility of using hours- my son usually goes before school but the staff are great about letting me send him after school as needed and with little notice. My son is always happy to go to Kids Country and comes home from there happy as well. The staff greet him by name every morning and make him feel welcome.

Kids' Country at Sycamore Valley in Danville has a caring, passionate staff. Communication with me has been good, and I feel very comfortable having them watch my precious little girl after Kindergarten ends. Over the Summer they held exciting Camp activities and trips, and all went well without any major problems. Some of the staff are personable enough to chat with parents, and I've enjoyed getting to know them. We LOVE how their room is literally steps away from my daughter's Kinder room, in the same gated area. Very convenient.

One star off for the occasional lack of rigidity in care structure. I realize it's difficult to keep a room full of various-aged kids in line, but sometimes I walk in and it's a little too zoo-like for my comfort level. Nothing dangerous or unacceptable, but I personally prefer more discipline. Again, this is occasional and not a deal-breaker.

Lastly and most importantly, when I arrive to pick up my princess, she is almost always happy and well. I'd recommend Kids' Country.

I am so grateful to have Kids Country. The staff is great and friendly. My daughter never wants to leave. It's like having extended family. The staff watch out for her. She has made lots of great friends. Thank you so much from a very grateful working mother!

This is a great program for elementary school aged kids. This organization offers programs for Before and After school which is great! The staff are courteous, caring and fun. Most of the staff have child developmental degrees or are attending college earning their degree. The activities for the children are enriching and there's even homework help available. Snacks served are always healthy and allergen free. Kids seem to thrive in the program making friendships with kids from other grade levels and learning new skills. Recommended.

The child care is decent and there is some attempt at getting kids to do their homework after school but it's not great in that way. The staff is warm and skilled. The big benefit is it's on site. However, the administration is, in my opinion, pretty greedy. At SRVUSD the grade schools have early wednesday dismissal which wreaks havoc on working parents. Kids Country refuses to offer a Wednesday afternoon only rate (to accommodate the 'wacky Wednesday' schedule). When I asked they basically told me there was so much demand for care they just didn't need to accommodate this audience. As well, their minimum hour contract is 25 per month. The $$ just add up. I think a little more flexibility in their fee structure would make a huge difference for how people feel about this provider.

GBParent - Thank you so much for your honest feedback. I have heard your concerns and would welcome the opportunity to speak with you in person or over the phone at your convenience. I understand your concerns regarding our contract structure and fees. Our goal is to be as flexible as possible while still remaining able to maintain our high quality staffing, facilities and programming that our children deserve. Our Board of Directors (which is made up of parents and community members) reviews the rates and contract structure annually with the goal to offer the most flexible pricing possible while remaining able to cover our expenses. Over time, we have found that the seven different options for purchasing our services seem to work the best for the majority of our families. Offering “buckets” of hours that can be used how each individual family desires offers quite a bit of flexibility. Those contracts can also be changed on a monthly basis at no charge if changed with some advance notice. Additionally, I would like to take this opportunity to explain a little bit about our business model and why the decision is made to structure our fees the way in which the Board has chosen to do so. We are a non-profit organization that funds our operations solely using the fees paid by the parents. We do not receive any funding from the state or local governments or the school district. With that said, our revenue needs to cover the cost of staff (which is about 70% of our operating costs) as well as our facility upkeep, rent and program associated costs. The quality of our care is only as good as the quality of our staff and so being able to attract and retain staff is a key issue for us. To address that, we have above average pay rates and benefit plans as well as a minimum of four hour shifts for each staff member. If we were to offer lower cost contracts (in the form of a drop in or hourly rate) our revenue would decrease dramatically and we would not be able to cover our costs as they currently stand. As a result we would have lower quality staff, program materials and facilities, and in turn a lower quality experience for your child. We take great pride in the flexibility of contracts to our families, high quality of our staff, programs offered and facility cleanliness and upkeep. We have received many accolades and awards for our program and staff quality such as “Best Place to Work 2014”, “Top Workplace” and COA Accreditation for 9 of our sites with the last 4 completing accreditation in the next month. I hope that you will agree that although our fees and structure may not work all of the time, the families deserve to have access to the best care available after school and that is what we are providing. Again, I appreciate your honest feedback. Our goal is to provide a positive experience to all of our clients.
