Causes: Arts & Culture, Singing & Choral Groups
Mission: Through musical expression, we encourage women's creativity, celebrate diversity, and inspire social action.
Programs: For 30 years, sdwc has successfully produced musically engaging, financially profitable events reaching an increasing number of san diegans. Performances range from cabaret-style events with solo/small ensembles for 125 audience members to concerts in churches and performing arts centers with 85 women singing for 400 attendees. In addition to four-self-produced concert and cabaret-style events, sdwc also performs at approximately ten community events annually. Each performance, whether a ticketed concert or community event, requires artistic preparation, production/logistics coordination, and marketing/ promotion. By presenting mission-driven musical programming centering around the global themes of oppression, resistance, and positive social change, sdwc seeks to connect the individual and shared experiences of lgbtq people and women to the universal concerns shared by people in our san diego community, across our country, and throughout our world in order to foster mutual respect, understanding and compassion with the male, heterosexual, non-feminist-identifying, non-activist identifying members of the audience.
