Causes: Crime & Law, Domestic Violence, Legal Services, Protection Against Abuse
Mission: Promote safety, stability and self-sufficiency for low income families and individuals, as well as victims of domestic violence, through effective, efficient legal advocacy and assistance.
Programs: Domestic violence program provides child and adult victims of domestic abuse legal assistance in obtaining protective orders or civil stalking injunctions. Legal aid society assisted 2,428 victims of domestic violence seeking protection from abuse in the fiscal year. These services also benefitted an additional 5,917 individuals who lived in the abusive household.
domestic relations program provides legal aid to low-income individuals in matters of divorce, child custody, child support and other family law issues. Legal aid society helped 123 clients achieve family stability. These services benefitted an additional 206 individuals living in the home.
sexual assault program - under a grant from the department of justice, legal aid society will represent sexual assault victims with household income below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines in family law cases (divorce, custody, guardianship) with no client fee.
