Mission: REAF is a grass-roots agency founded by two mothers who lost their only sons to AIDS as a way of honoring their sons' memories and of supporting all the other sons and daughters still living with HIV. Through the production of high-profile entertainment events, REAF helps brige the gap in decreasing government and other private funding sources for local AIDS service agencies, promotes awarenes about AIDS as well as the services provided by local agencies. REAF also supports advocacy that affects public policy, education for the prevention of, and research for a cure to AIDS/HIV.
Results: REAF created a new annual benefit called "Dances from the Heart" featuring dancers from many top Bay Area dance companies in order to increase the number of agencies we support as well as promote the art of dance to our Bay Area audiences. While REAF events are designed to be entertaining and fun, they also create awareness about AIDS and provide funds to help ensure people with HIV and AIDS in the Bay Area continue to have access to the care they depend on.
Programs: REAF receives no government funding and each year, corporate sponsorship becomes more and more difficult to obtain and AIDS becomes less of a priority for other private souces.
REAF produces various fundraising programs and has distributed over $2 million to over 30 different AIDS agencies over the past 12 years.
Each summer, "Help is on the Way" is produced featuring music by classic American and Broadway composers. Events feature stars from Broadway, film, television and the best of Bay Area talent, all of whom donate their time and talent. The event features gala receptions for corporate sponsors and higher level ticket buyers and extensive silent and live auctions. Five to ten beneficiaries have been selected to receive funds from this event, depending on the size of the theatre utilized.
In early December, we produce a second musical concert event called "Help is on the Way for the Holidays," now in its eith year. It features a gala dessert reception with the cast following the performance for sponsors and high level ticket buyers, as well as a pre-performance silent auction. It features music that reflects the spirit of the holidays - love, care and compassion.
Throughout the year, as touring Broadway shows come to San Francisco, we work with these shows to produce "One Night Only" performances which feature the show casts performing music of their own choosing (not from their show). These are held in various smaller, more intimate theaters and also feature mini silent auctions and dessert parties with the casts following the performances for sponsors and higher level ticket buyers. REAF generally chooses between 2 and 4 touring casts to work with depending on tour dates and lengths in San Francisco.
REAF also provides tickets for each of these events for persons with HIV through the beneficiary agencies.

Fabulous charity. They do good work and make it fun. I have volunteered for 9 years and continue to go back for the BIG event every year, even though I have moved 3 hours away. With the extensive use of volunteers, lots of money goes to SF non-profits that support AIDS prevention and those fighting HIV and AIDS.
Great organization, truly a volunteer charity. REAF continues to support local agencies in need of funds. With the state and fed costs fund, the money that REAF raises really helps. Check out how you can help. www.reaf.org
