Mission: Respite House was started in 1975 by Family Service Center and was located on Hampton Street. In 1977, the program became part of the Columbia Housing Authority and was moved to Gonzales Gardens in 1982. Respite House became an independent, nonprofit agency in 1984 and moved into the former Colonial Heights Baptist Church now Family Worship Center. Clients attend on a set schedule one to five days per week. Funding for the adult day care services in provided by the Social Services Block Grant, Medicaid, the local VA hospital, and the Older Americans' Act. Private payment is also accepted.
