Mission: To educate and foster community awareness of negleted environmental resources and to develop resource recovery projects. Programing areas include residential and commercial recycling, urban agriculture, perishable food recovery, and creative reuse of discarded items.
Programs: Residential and commercial recycling: resource center collects recycable materials from businesses, residents, and institutions across the city of chicago, through curbside collections, drop-off centers, and buy-back centers, as well as through a mobile buy-back program that serves chicago's public housing communities.
urban agricultute: resource center produces fresh, naturally grown vegetables, while at the same time educating the community about the importance of a healthy food system through lectures, demonstrations, volunteer days, and after school programs with neighborhood students.
perishable food recovery: resource center retrieves healthy, unsold food from sources such as grocery stores and farmers markets, and then redistributes it to food pantries and shelters.
