Mission: Rape Victim Advocates (RVA) is an independent, not-for-profit organization dedicated to the healing and empowerment of sexual assault survivors through non-judgmental crisis intervention counseling, individual and group counseling, and medical and legal advocacy in the greater Chicago metropolitan area. RVA provides public education and institutional advocacy in order to improve the treatment of sexual assault survivors and to effect positive change in policies and public attitudes toward sexual assault.
Target demographics: Survivors of sexual violence and their loved ones in the Chicago area, as well as communities, organizations and individuals committed to ending sexual violence
Direct beneficiaries per year: Over 1,000 survivors of sexual violence and their loved ones; over 10,000 youth participating in prevention education workshops
Programs: Advocacy - includes 24-hour crisis intervention at 11 hospitals, legal advocacy and medical advocacy Counseling - free individual, couples and family counseling as well as support groups Education & Training - prevention education for youth, organizations and community members; professional training for a variety of disciplines
