Mission: In the wake of the recent breakup of Yugoslavia and the brutal war in Bosnia, the post-Yugoslav societies are at a crossroads. For a lasting, and meaningful peace, reconciliation is necessary and requires much cooperation and communication between people that now belong to different or new nations. RACCOON finds avenues to fostering reconciliation, with the ultimate goal of building a civil society. The programs will seek to increase the use of culturally and sensitive models for conflict.
In USA, exiles, immigrants and refugees from areas of seemingly intractable conflict and oppression play important roles as keepers of the "memories" and "maps" that chart their historic grievances and aspirations. RACCOON is helping some to increase knowledge of conflict resolution alternatives among their own communities in conflict so they can play positive and effective roles in resolving conflicts here and abroad.
