Prime Stage produces works that inspire students and families alike. They are also committed to hiring local performers, artists & designers.
I began working with Prime Stage Theatre about five years ago. I was familiar with their philosophy and their focus on bringing literature to life and wanted to be a part of what they were offering. Taking literture and making it live and breath for audiences is what theatre should be. Bringing new outlooks and understandings to classic and contempory fiction helps foster introspection and brings communities and individuals together. Especially in these trying times that we are living in we need theatre like the theatre that Prime Stage brings to Pittsburgh. On top of all this, they also have many community outreach programs that help foster interaction and understanding between communities and individuals alike. They don't just produce plays. They produce experiences that bring out the best in everyone who experiences them. I am proud to say to people that I am a member of Prime Stage and the legacy that they have created and the legacy that will live on in Pittsburgh for a very long time.
As the co-founder and board member of Prime Stage Theatre, I am pleased with the accomplishments over the past 24 years as we Bringing Literature to Life on Stage. With the challenges in today's climate, Prime Stage has pivoted their process with re-imagined theatre with our Prime Online Series. Now they can bring literature to you at home. We continue our educational outreach programs for teachers, students, and now we're including parents. Prime Stage has also started a mystery podcast "interactive" series that will begin this fall. And we're proud of our accessibility programming with audio description and sensory inclusive performances.

I have worked with Prime Stage Theatre for over 10 years. And through the years I have seen how they use their mission to bring literature to life in order to inspire and create thought provoking dialogue among their patrons. Each performance is top notch - from its design and acting, to the themes and subject matter it is portraying. Prime Stage Theatre greatly enhances the Pittsburgh theatre community and brings to it something that cannot be seen anywhere else.
There are few nonprofits where the entire leadership is passionate about what they do. Prime Stage Theatre is one of them. They care deeply about their mission to provide professional, thought-provoking works of live theater to the Pittsburgh region. They are passionate about connecting students and teachers to the arts and literature. You cannot go wrong supporting this nonprofit.
Prime Stage is committed to bringing literature to life for young and adult audiences with newer and classic works of fiction and non fiction. The opportunities for actors, directors and designers to connect in an artistic manner over two decades of story telling is magnificent!
I sat and participated with an audience of school children who had just seen, "The Diary of Anne Frank." They were eager to learn and active in their enthusiasm toward the play presented by Prime Stage.
This Theater Company is a responsible community citizen that actively participates in educating through theater. Prime Stage needs to be well supported, encouraged, well attended and amply funded.
Sincerely,
Michael Perry
One of my great honors has been my involvement with Prime Stage Theatre. The organization has consistently entertained and educated southwestern Pennsylvania for 22 years and, in so doing, has developed a loyal audience of people who appreciate Prime Stage's unique mission of combining literature and theater to enrich lives, foster love of reading and measurably improve literacy. The organization's longevity can be attributed to its founders' passion for presenting quality, professional productions and programs for all ages. Audience members continue to express their high degree of satisfaction and return again and again. Prime Stage truly fills an important need in the Pittsburgh arts community. I am proud to be associated with this wonderful organization.
I have worked with them several
Times, Ana each experience has been a jem. Wouldn’t have traded it for anything else.
My son has been in a number of productions with Prime Stage and they are a terrific organization! The shows are so well done and being part of a show was such a wonderful experience. It is amazing how much work goes into a production and young people can learn valuable life lessons around self-confidence, hard work, team work and so much more.
Prime Stage truly is a regional asset!
I admire Prime Stage Theatre's commitment to educating middle and high school students about the warning signs and dangers related to teen dating violence. They work to stage performances of "You Belong to Me" at a variety of schools and community venues; this powerful theatrical production raises awareness about the importance of speaking up and seeking help for intimate partner abuse. Prime Stage Theatre is great at adapting the performances to a variety of spaces, and making the play's content relevant to all teens and students.
The mission of Prime Stage, "Bringing Literature to Life," for children and adults alike is an excellent way to help others achieve an interest in reading and in theatre. Prime Stage does it with a professionalism that far exceeds what one might expect from a smaller organization. The quality of their performers and designers, the excellent guest lecturers, and the thoughtfulness of the staff shows great commitment from the local artists and speakers to be involved in this admirable quest.
Tickets for Kids Charities has partnered with Prime Stage Theatre for many years on a program called Performance 360: A Celebration of Reading. This program allows in-need and at-risk teens served by TFK to have a unique interactive experience that combines literature and performing arts. The benefits of this program go far beyond the time spent watching the wonderful performance each year at the New Hazlett Theater. We are deeply grateful to Wayne Brinda and his talented team for including TFK kids in their world of creativity & joy!
I came to Prime Stage with my daughter to see a play 5 years ago and we both got "hooked". My daughter watched young actors playing out a story and she said "I want to do that"! She auditioned for a show, got the part and the rest is history, so to say. My volunteering started with helping to decorate the window for a display for the play, then ushering, then selling concessions, to being an advisor for the teen board and to now to be able to say "Proud Board Member". I have watched my daughter grow with her involvement with Prime Stage - her poise, her independent nature, her interest in literature and now her community service project in helping to bring awareness about teen dating violence to her peers. The atmosphere created by the people involved with Prime Stage has been very positive and nurturing of all the teen's individual skills and talents while helping to bring literature to life for middle school students and their families. I believe in what the company is trying to do and highly recommend involvement in any way!
Prime Stage has been the place that helped me to grow to be the person I am today! I started with Prime Stage in December 1997 when I was 15 years old. First as an actor then I grew into other roles leading up to Stage Manager. Wayne Brinda particularly saw in me (and others!) the gifts we had to offer, and cultivated those things. I would NEVER have imagined myself as a Stage Manager - I was shy and Stage Managing requires a LOT of responsibilty... but Wayne/Prime Stage saw in me something more! At age 17 I stage managed my first show - through their mentorship, ecouragement, and support I came to love this job over all the others! (yes, even compared to being onstage!) Stage Managing required me to grow a lot in order to take charge like I needed to - and now today being married and raising two kids - I can apply the skills I learned while Stage Managing!!! Another aspect of Prime Stage that I am grateful for is there attention to making sure it is a family friendly place. Because young kids were apart of every show, workers were required "keep it clean" while kids were around. The family atmosphere was awesome too - many workers (backstage and onstage) returned for several shows, and in each show a new family was made. These are people I still cherish today and have not found such close relationships since. Thank you prime stage for one of the greatest experience of my life!!! If I weren't living in Illinois I would still be involved!! :) :) :)
Prime Stage is a breath of fresh air. It gives parents, children and non partent adults, a venue for theater that is classic and professional. They do so much, for theater and liturature education, for the youth of the Greater Pittsburgh area. They sponsor educational and writing programs for youth and plays that they can work on and in. This organization is professional and ethical in it's dealings with the community, and always considers the community wheather producing a play or sponsoring a program for the youth of the area. They are education orinented, and work hard to supply educational programs for the inner city population, black and white, Jew and Gentile alike. It is a great organization.
Prime Stage Theater's goal to bring literatur to life is evidenced by their play selections and subsequent productions. I have attended their productions over the past 10 years and have never been disappointed by their professionalism and interpretation of the literature; they have always provided an exceptional experience. The educational outreach to the underserved communities thorugh their "Adopt a School" Program and student matinees provides an invaluable experience to these students which will last a lifetime. Their Teen Board and Mentor Program is an extension of their dedication to youth in the community with an interest and love for literature and theater.
Prime Stage is the only theatre in Southwestern PA that effectively blends its artistic and educational missions to address adolescent literacy. The high quality of its productions along with the high quality of its educational programs contribute to the company's success. Also, while some national theatres do occasional programs for teens, Prime Stage is fully committed with all its productions and programs to satisfy the interests of teens with its Teen Advisory Board and other programs. The company also helps teachers motivate and improve the reading skills of underserved middle and high school students. This company is truly a cultural and educational asset.
Prime Stage's productions feature strong casts, excellent direction, and an intimate setting. I enjoy seeing theater up close. I can see an actor flex his jaw muscles; I can feel the air shake when someone shouts or cries. Prime Stage really lets you experience the play.
Prime Stage provides valuable services to underpriviledged youth in the Pittsburgh region through their education programs. I truly believe in their mission to entertain, educate, and enrich families, students, and educators in the discovery of theatre and literature. They address adolescent literacy with theatrical adaptations of literature, new plays, and educational programs. Their Adopt-a-School Program, along with Resource Guides, Student Matinee Program, “Chat Sessions,” Teacher Workshops, and Technical Theater Mentor Program and Teen Board help make theater and literature relevant, comprehensible, and enjoyable to middle school and high school educators, students, and their families.
