Mission: Play on, philly! Focuses on providing an environment of opportunity through the collective practice of music in orchestral playing and choral singing as models of academic and life skill-development, social organization, and community building. (continued on schedule o)pop provides an education and social preparedness program while devloping musical knowledge and performance skills at a high level.
Programs: Pop continued to operate programming during the school year at freire charter middle school, st. Francis de sales school, and pop academy (serving high school students from a variety of high schools across philadelphia). Organizational programming included bringing guest artists to work and perform with students from a variety of musical and cultural styles. Students also performed in various recitals and concerts around philadelphia, including recitals at the curtis institute of music, a fundraising concert at the college of physicians of philadelphia, and a mid-year concert at the kennedy center in washington, dc.
pop again held a creative, high-quality summer program during july 2017 at west catholic high school for 85 students. The tuition-free program was held every weekday from 8:30am-2:30pm. The schedule included instrumental lessons, chamber music instruction, creative music classes, and ensemble practice.
