Causes: Family Planning, Health, Reproductive Health Care, Reproductive Rights
Mission: Pppsgv is one of the oldest affiliates in the planned parenthood federation of america (ppfa), and our mission is to provide broad public access to family planning and reproductive health care services through medical services, education and advocacy. Every year, through our four safety-net health centers (located in pasadena, alhambra, eagle rock, and glendora), we see more than 55,000 patient visits. Across our service area spanning 24 cities in the greater san gabriel valley area, we are the most sought-after and reliable provider of family planning and reproductive health care, particularly for low-income and/or uninsured patients.
Programs: Medical services: at our four health centers, we provide comprehensive reproductive and sexual health services, including breast and cervical cancer screenings, colposcopy and leep treatments, mammography, well woman as well as male exams, pregnancy tests, birth control, emergency contraception, sti testing and treatment, and abortion care. At our glendora location, we offer basic primary care.
sex education: each year, we offer more than 11,000 educational opportunities to young people, their teachers and families, as well as to high-risk populations such as foster youth and patients in residential treatment. We provide competent and inclusive sex and relationship education to middle school, high school, and college students, and we train parents, teachers, and youth-serving staff to be knowledgeable, supportive allies that can empower young people to make informed and responsible choices. Additionally, through our widespread outreach, we provide the general public with medically accurate information and resources on sexual and reproductive health.
advocacy: to ensure health equity, reproductive justice, and comprehensive sex education for all, we mobilize a network of over 1,000 grassroots activists, partner with state and national networks, and work with legislators and policymakers at all levels of government.
