Mission:
Five Acres is a child and family services agency whose mission is to empower families to raise children to become caring and productive adults by building on their strengths and those of their communities. Five Acres works to prevent child abuse and neglect; care for, treat and educate emotionally disturbed, abused and neglected children and their families in residential and outreach programs; advance the welfare of children and families by research, advocacy and collaboration; and strive for the highest standards of excellence by professionals and volunteers.
Programs: Five Acres' programs include residential treatment for 80 boys and girls ages six to 13; two group homes for 18 youth ages 12 to 18; a non-public on-site therapeutic school serving 80 elementary through junior high school-level students with serious emotional disturbances, learning disabilities and developmental delays; home-based abuse and neglect prevention services (including perinatal services for expectant and new deaf mothers); a family preservation network; foster care; adoption promotion and support services; school-based mental health treatment services for students at risk for academic failure and their families; therapeutic behavioral services for children experiencing a life crisis; aftercare to facilitate successful reunification for children returning to families; wraparound services providing whatever it takes to keep children at home with people who know and love them; independent living/emancipation support and scholarships for group home and foster care youth graduating from high school and moving on to colleges and vocational programs; community-based deaf services program in American Sign Language including perinatal services; and domestic violence prevention services.
