I first discovered Paws Give Me Purpose when they applied for a medical grant for one of their hospice dogs (I help run a hospice dog grant fund). In learning more about the work they do, I was so taken with the expert professional care, love, and attention they give to senior, hospice, special needs, and vulnerable dogs. The small team who runs the sanctuary humbly and graciously gives everything to them, day in and day out, 24/7. These are some very happy dogs!!!! Not only am I now a donor, I try to volunteer as often as I can. The sanctuary is really a testament to the best of humanity, and I wish there were more organizations like Paws Give Me Purpose in this world.
Lea and the whole team at Paws are absolutely amazing. As an organization, they have always been on the front lines doing everything possible to help neglected and forgotten animals find their place in the world. When it’s not as simple as just finding a furry friend a home, they kick it in high gear and move mountains to find them safety and buy some time. Sick, abused, emotionally damaged…Lea has a way of using her network and calling in the troops to make sure every dog that has been forgotten gets a chance.
Paws is the reason I found Curtis John…a giant ball of love, my best friend, and truly a life saver. He was hiding in a Long Island shelter for years, literally years (at least 6). He was too big, too much, nobody wanted him. For years Paws and Brookhaven Animal Shelter dealt with this overbearing, slobbering, ball of curious joy? They fought for him, created Facebook pages, constantly kept him in the spotlight despite the years of never finding a home. The dedication, compassion and resources it must have took to stay vigilant and keep trying, Curtis isn’t easy and he definitely isn’t the only one they are helping every day. But honestly, Paws and the network they have built do this all the time, nonstop. With the types of dogs that actually end up at the Paws facilities, finding Curtis a home was probably easy compared to caring for the animals that are lucky enough to call Paws home. They take the medical cases, the dogs that probably will never be able to find their own family for one reason or another. Which makes that place even more special, it truly is an extended family, a home for the ones that would never get the chance to experience that. Without nonprofits like this, these animals would suffer and be lost. Lea and the amazing people who work at Paws are the last line for the abused and neglected…and every day they are helping not just these furry friends, but helping their community and changing lives in the process.
Trust me, when I found Curtis, it was life changing. Curtis saved me, but it took a lot more than finding my best friend to help me out of my funk. Life can hurt sometimes, and I was struggling on all fronts. I found the big guy on a Paws Facebook page dedicated to him, and it was love at first sight and such an epic journey to adopt him, get him out to Utah, and rebuild our lives together. I didn’t know how rewarding, how healing an animal could be. What is more, I didn’t know the community and the people I would encounter on this adventure. At my lowest moment, I found that Curtis didn’t just come by himself…he had an army of support behind him! That support somehow became my support, his people became my friends and really supported not just him, they somehow helped me get back on my feet. We were bombarded with presents, given everything we could ever need, every question answered right away. It didn’t stop there, Lea especially has continued to support and deal with us over here, no matter what. A year later she is still as invested in Curtis and his human as she was on day one, and the whole experience has changed our life out here in Utah.
Lea, everyone at Paws and anyone who supports the organization, THANK YOU. You saved more than a dog, and my community, my family, and most especially me and Curtis John are forever grateful. What you do has ripple effects far beyond just the lives of the animals you save. What you do matters, how you do it matters, and we think Paws Gives Me Purpose is very good at what they do!
What Lea does for those dogs is totally awesome. I think she’s absolutely amazing. I’ve visited with my daughter (who is a volunteer) and it’s clear that those dogs are very loved and very well taken care of. More people need to be as caring and dedicated as she is.
I’ve been serving on the board of Paws Give Me Purpose since inception in 2018 – and it’s amazing to see how this organization has changed the lives of hundreds of dogs over the years, both near and far. The staff and volunteers are vibrant, dedicated, and excited to provide loving care for dogs that have been otherwise neglected or abandoned. The dogs in their care have experienced profound transformations in their health and trust toward people. I wish the organization continued success and growth in providing care for dogs in need – giving them a second chance of life filled with love, health, and happiness.
We found this little girl on the street in Houston. I contacted Paws Give Me Purpose. Her intake was closed but she couldn't say no. We worked together for months and months till she was cleared for flight. I can't thank this rescue enough for going above and beyond to help this senior in need. I love this rescue. And would love to help them more.

Pause give me purpose to cause well beyond the realm of a rescue and a sanctuary. There are home to those in need. There are home to those that have been discarded. The ones that they take in of a cases that no one else wants and they give them the love and compassion as if they were in a home. I can't praise them enough for what they do, but what I can tell you is if you ever have a chance to want to donate to a rescue and sanctuary, this would be the one that I would donate to time and time again.
My wife and I recently had the pleasure of visiting Paws Give Me Purpose when adopting our senior, blind dog Benny. While PGMP doesn’t normally adopt out dogs, they took our Benny in from a shelter after he had little to no adoption interest. Benny had spent his life in an animal hoarding and breeding situation. He is blind from cataracts and spent most of his life neglected and in a cage. Even tho he had not had any adoption interest, Benny was still considered adoptable, so my wife, two Dachshunds Rudy and Murphy, and I took the trip to Cherry Hill, NJ to pick him up and we’re SO glad we did. What a very special place Paws Give Me Purpose is for dogs who have found themselves on hard times and without a family to love them. Paws Give Me Purpose provides that to them, and more! Since then, we have been regular supporters of Paws Give Me Purpose and always make sure to tell others about them every chance we get. After hearing about what they do, most people ask “how can I help them?” which we always find heartwarming in it self. It speaks volumes about how what Paws Give Me Purpose does really matters. Not everyone can take in a dog, especially one with special needs, but almost everyone can find a way to donate and help support this incredible place continue doing what they do so we’ll!
My admiration and deep respect for Paws Give Me Purpose Inc is due to the love and care for these sweet pups that were discarded my negligent and irresponsible owners. My husband and I sponsor 4 of these beautiful pups. We also had the pleasure of visiting this amazing sanctuary. Every pup in their care is treated with so much love and care. The sanctuary was immaculate, you would never know many pups reside there. There is a lovely outdoor fenced area for the pups and pools for the pups to cool off if they so choose. The founder Lea and her amazing team are remarkable. They have scarified their own life to love and care for these beautiful pups that were failed by their human. I work for a municipal animal shelter in New York and sadly, an elderly Yorkshire Terrier mix with medical issues was surrendered to the shelter because her owner passed away. At nearly 14 years old, this dog would have been very hard to find a home for. We contacted Lea at Paws Give Me Purpose and she welcomed Talulah Belle, now "Lulu" with open arms into her sanctuary. When we visited it was apparent that each dog was so loved and taken the very best care of. We cant thank Paws Give Me Purpose and the incredible work that they do enough!

The dogs other people have neglected and dumped get love, vet care, clean beds and a safe home for whatever time they have left. Lea runs a true doggie sanctuary for all fur babies. "Paws gives me Purpose" is a wonderful sanctuary for senior and otherwise abandoned dogs that sadly no one wants. At "Paws give me Purpose" new residents are greeted with open arms and given immediate medical care. These
broken, abused and lonely pups find a warm cozy bed, a kind touch and a home cooked meal. In a short time they begin to heal. It is amazing how they respond to the gift of love from the dedicated volunteers who work tirelessly there. It is heartwarming to know that such a place exists. I myself volunteer for a rescue group and we sometimes place our seniors with "Paws" confident that he or she will live out their life happily cared for and genuinely loved.
It was a recommendation from a friend at another shelter that first introduced me to this wonderful sanctuary. After many months of sending donations I was able to visit them. It is a home filled with hope, kindness and enormous love for every resident. Many of these beautiful little souls have been discarded, neglected and surrendered when they need their humans the most. That is when Paws Give Me Purpose steps in to give the residents everything they need, which often includes costly medical care. It truly is a wonderful place that will always have a special place in my heart and one that I will forever support.
Words alone cannot express how amazing Paws Give Me Purpose is. So many of the dogs they take in are dogs that most have given up on. When they arrive they are shown, many for the first time, what it is to be loved. They never turn their back on them even though many of them have severe medical issues. I have also seen so many dogs they have found loving homes for that have been in municipal shelters for years that are now part of loving families.

When my dog Precious passed away the week of Christmas 2020 I was lost. She was my best friend for 18 years. I needed to find a way to love and care for elderly dogs but I didn't have the means to adopt. When I found Paws Give Me Purpose it was like coming home. Lea is the most caring and loving animal lover I have ever met. The dogs in her sanctuary are well loved and well cared for. You can see the devotion in the eyes of the dogs every time they see her. What she does is truly something special and I am so proud and honored to be able to help PGMP in their efforts to love those who need it most.
