Nonprofit Overview
Mission: To enhance positive outcomes for families and chilldren in new mexico through informed decision making, advocacy, education and resources. Parents reaching out to help provides the networking opportunities for families to connect and support each other. This mission supports all families including those who have children with disabilities, and others who are disenfranchised. Parents reaching out to help achieves this mission by developing family leadership; connecting families to services and each other; building collaborative partnerships; and providing families knowledge and tools to enhance thier individual and collective power.
Programs: As the new mexico parent training and information center, families and professionals continue to turn to parents reaching out for accurate and useful information in support of their efforts to negotiate the educational and health systems on behalf of their children. Parents reaching out underwent an organization restructure that resulted in a more stable organization with an increase in positions that directly serve families. The new infrastructure has allowed parents reaching out to continue to a focus on families with children with special needs in the most effective way. Parents reaching out connects with families in a variety of ways. Our website provides information pertinent to families and downloads accounted for about 50% of our total contacts (151,645). Direct contact with families and professionals through phone calls, meetings, workshops and presentations made up 34% of our total contacts (51,997). Outreach events made up 1% (4,962) of our total contacts. E-blast communications to families and professionals, detailing updates in policy, announcement and event information, made up 3% of our total contacts (13,208). The utilizing technology permits parents reaching out to reach into the rural areas of new mexico. We continue to present valuable information and the family perspective to professionals within other agencies and organizations that work within the systems that serve our families.
