Mission: Our mission is to create opportunities for the working poor to become confident, productive and self-sufficient citizens through financial empowerment and access to affordable microloans. Opportunity plus model is inspired by the practice of microfinance plus, where the extension of small-scale financial services to low-income populations includes broader development issues like gender, health, education and energy provision to address the multi-dimensionality of poverty. We aim to create a sense of ownership with a vested interest in their personal development, and believe that affordable capital is a powerful way to address the challenges faced in poverty. Programs: Microloans for basic human needs - renewable energy this past year, we awarded $261,000 in grants to our grantee field partners towards our microloans for basic human needsrenewable energy program. We support and repayable microloan programs to help low-income households gain access to safe and renewable energy through solar lamps. Our grantees deployed the funds as repayable microloans to help these families purchase solar lamps for their homes. As the loans are repaid, the funds are lent out to new beneficiaries, allowing us to leverage the impact of the funds over time.
microloans for microenterprises - enterprise development this past year, we awarded $120,281 in grants to our grantee field partners towards our microloans for microenterprises-enterprise development program. We support financial empowerment programs and repayable microloan programs for income generating activities, such as basket weaving, chutney production, dairy farming and tailoring. Our grantees deployed the funds as repayable microloans. As the loans are repaid, the funds are lent out to new beneficiaries, allowing us to leverage the impact of the funds over time.
microloans for microenterprises - vocational training this past year, we awarded $89,535 in grants to our grantee field partners towards our microloans for microenterprises-vocational training program. We support financial empowerment programs and repayable microloan programs for vocational and skill training classes, such as computer programming, beauty school training, dress making classes to help prepare our beneficiaries with better employment prospects.
