Causes: Amateur Sports Competitions, Sports
Mission: One world 2011 creates positive relationships between people of the muslim world and people of the united states by facilitating the exchange of knowledge, culture and ideas.
Programs: In 2010 a great deal was accomplished in program and administrative areas. Youth sports and youth leadership programs: more than 1,000 young people from countries in the middle east and north africa were invited to participate in the event in seattle in 2011. One world 2011 staff members designed three week programs for the exchange programs in both sports and leadership. The sports programs included home stays through the washington state soccer association and training with the seattle sounders and girls basketball with the seattle storm of the national basketball association. The operations staff prepared travel programs, insurance, visa applications, home stays, and dormitory facilities for some participants. Interfaith conference: an interfaith conference was planned in partnership with seattle university and the islamic society of north america. A local (puget sound area) group was formed and had regular meetings to work on the conference. Funding: funding was received from the bill and melinda gates foundation, the seattle foundation, one nation and the starbucks foundation. International support: involvement in sending youth to seattle for one world 2011 was confirmed by the following countries: egypt, jordan, israel, lebanon, qatar, turkey, morocco, united arab emirates, canada and the united states. Media: a press conference was held in istanbul, turkey. Media coverage included television interviews and newspapers in morocco, the united states, egypt, jordan, russia, turkey, uae and other countries and included cnn, cnn turk, video cairo, msnbc and the huffington post. Support: partners and supporters of one world 2011 in 2010 included the national basketball association, one world now, the aspen institute through partners for a new beginning, the islamic society of north america, the university of washington, seattle university, injaz al arab, one nation, the foundation for russian american economic cooperation, cnn turkey, amid east, turkish airlines, the jordan river foundation, unico, usaid and several other public and private organizations.
