Mission: Autismoklahoma is a non-profit organization that believes that every person with autism is unique and important. Our organization helps individuals with autism reach their full potential, helps families thrive, and helps communities understand and embrace differences.
Programs: Help families thrive with parent support groups parent support groups provide peer mentoring, emotional support, educational programming, and family safe events. Autismoklahoma offers parent support groups in 13 geographies under the following names: autismblanchard, autismcanadianvalley, autismedmond, autismguthrie, autismlatino, autismmuskogee, autismnorman, autismokc, autismshawnee,autismstillwater, autismtulsa, autismweatherford, and autismschoolchoice. Autismlatino serves the hispanic community in the oklahoma city metro area. In addition, we have a writers group for parents who desire a writing experience with a professional author. Approximately 10-30 families attend each group every month for an estimated impact of 190 families monthly. The support group leaders receive training twice annually and have regular coaching throughout the year. The training and leader support helps families to become stakeholders in the autismoklahoma family helping families thrive has been the backbone of autism oklahoma since its formation in 2002. In 2017, we added geographies and invested in the parent support group leadership structure. We also implemented piece of mind, a program for distributing gps and safety equipment to families who have children with a high risk of running away as well as a financial need.

Autism oklahoma provides social groups, summer experiences and pre- employment clubs to engage children, teens and young adults in social and pre-employment opportunities. In 2017, over 500 children, teens, and young adults with autism participated in our programs. In 2017, we introduced a new family of programs around the interest area of animals. Fuzzy is targeted to children with autism who crave animal exposures or may need animal desensitization. Some of our social groups include heroes, the avengers of autism, teen 2 teen, girls with voices, bowling for differently abled, and connections. We also provided innovative camps to encourage communication and involvement including big swanky art show and camp, little swanky, camp noggin, lego camp, energy sidekicks, and the green tea party. Our pre-employment clubs, bee's knees and invisible layers productions create life-changing experiences for young adults with asd. These clubs meet multiple times per week with a professional mentor who assists with creating a team environment as well as teaching skills. These clubs produce amazing results in confidence and in community participation. Helping individuals with autism reach their full potential is a goal of autismoklahoma. Autismoklahoma provides innovative programs to help individuals with autism to engage with others. We continue to make investments by offering 30 programs targeted to individuals on the autsim spectrum. One of our 2017 program highlights was taking members of the invisible layers team to los angeles for a film festival. Their film, even in death, won it's 4th best short film award at this festival.
provide autism awareness autismoklahoma provides the piecewalk & 5k on the first saturday in may in downtown oklahoma city. The piecewalk is the largest single autism event in our state and draws upwards of 8,000 people annually. The piecewalk is an awareness event that features entertainment, resources, and an opportunity to build community around individuals affected by autism. Autismoklahoma provided 42 different community outreach events for the general public to learn about autism in 2017. Autismoklahoma engaged 700 community volunteers for these events. We also provide a number of other autism awareness tools including our website, e-newsletters, social media, and a robust youtube channel. All of our programs are designed to engage our community in understanding and accepting people who have autism.
