Northwest Dance Network

Programs: Classes: nw dance network ofers fall/winter/spring classes on a variety of traditional social dances such as waltz, swing, foxtrot and other ballroom & traditional dances. Classes are open to the public (couples, singles, all ages & abilities), widely publicized and held in a non-competitive group setting. Instructors are highly skilled and carefully trained. More experienced dancers volunteer during classes to provide additional instruction and support. Classes meet for one hour/week for five weeks and are held at the swedish cultural center, centrally located in seattle. Tuition is kept low to make it affortable to many. In 2016 258 sessions of dance lessons were provided to approximatelly 300 dancers. Nw dance network offers a free, recorded music dance at the end of each class series for the general public. Dances are smoke/alcohol free.

community dances: nw dance network offers community dances twice a month. The dances begin with one hour of dance instruction. Dances are widely publicized, open to the public (couples, singles, all ages and abilities) and smoke and alcohol free. Live music is nw dance network's particular focus. Nw dance network selects musicians who play music appropiate for traditional ballroom & social dances. Nw dance network also focuses on local musicians to support and promote local artists. The cost to attend is kept low and affordable to many. Volunteers help with the set-up, clean-up and registration. Admissions to nw dance network's community dances in 2016 were approximatelly 2,200.

workshops and special events: nw dance network offers two major dance workshops every year. For the late winter waltz workshop, nw dance brings internationally known instructors to teach an intensive two day workshop to experienced dancers. The workshop emphazises the vintage aspect of waltz as well as the history of dance. The four day retreat at seabeck conference center features live and recorded music, including, but noy limited to: swing, waltz, salsa, blues, two-step and foxtrot. Nw dance network collaborated with other northwest dance organizations and instructors to present both of these workshops, bringing toghether dancers from all over the northwest. In 2016 480 dancers attended workshops, with some dancers attending both workshops, for a total of approximatelly 600 in attendance. Nw dance network held a new year's eve dance for the second time in 2016. The organization continued its outreach efforts by bringing dance demonstrations to local elder-care facilities to encourage dancing.
