Nonprofit Overview
Causes: Education, Elementary & Secondary Schools, Literacy
Mission: In 2013 under the initiative of our head of school, a group of committed parents seeking to fill a need in the community founded north shore montessori school (nsms), a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation dedicated to providing an independently funded, authentic montessori education. Nsms prepares the child for life in and out of our classroom with the means to develop self-control, self-direction and self-actualization. It is our vision to be the best place for a child to grow and learn, in a true montessori environment.
Programs: North shore montessori school enrolled and educated 54 children in the primary program, ages 3-6, and 26 children in the elementary program, ages 7-12. Fifty-five children were enrolled in 8 weeks of summer programming, and 15 in wrap-around care. Parent educational classes and discussion groups were conducted to assist parents in understanding the montessori educational method, as well as support them in parenting. Ongoing leasehold improvements were needed in order to keep the environment in excellent condition. Montessori materials and furniture was added to continually enhance programming. A beautifully fenced garden was added to be used for nature education, botany, and outdoor play. North shore montessori school earned recognition from the association montessori international for upholding the highest standards in montessori education.
