Causes: Home Improvement & Repairs, Homeless & Housing, Housing Support
Mission: Nhs of the fox valley, through its affiliation with its parent organization, neighborhood housing services of chicago (nhs), strengthens neighborhoods and provides high-quality, affordable housing opportunities for low- and moderate-income families throughout northern kane county by: (a) providing and sponsoring community-wide educational programs focusing on the fundamentals of homeownership; providing assistance to potential and existing low- and moderate-income homebuyers and homeowners in obtaining affordable financing; offering services after the purchase to help families fix and keep their homes, and (b) promoting community development by renewing pride, restoring confidence and stimulating reinvestment in and revitalization of distressed neighborhoods.
Programs: Home improvement and lending services: nhs of the fox valley created 2 new homeowners through neighborhood lending services funding totaling over $164,900. Additional downpayment and closing cost assistance leveraged through the kane county downpayment assistance program impacted two first-time homebuyers earning at or below 80% of the area median. Pre-purchase: 209 homeowners attended nhs of the fox valley homebuyer education classes. Foreclosure prevention: 24 families avoided foreclosure by working with a housing counselor to develop an individual plan of action and communicating with their servicer.
