I met Ruth Walls thru a friend in my apartment building. Thru Ruth and this friend I was introduced to New Day and the Friday prayer breakfast. This enabled me to get some help
that was much needed. I continue to attend the prayer breakfast, make new friends and get
continued help.
THANKS to both Ruth and New Day!

When I first got to Bethany Community Church, a New Day partner church, I would not have dreamed I would be friends with homeless and vulnerable people. The women used to meet at another location and when we lost our benefactor the men of New Day invited us to join them for Friday breakfast. The breakfast is a wonderful way to get Bible study and listen to other people's viewpoints. It is also a good way to check in with people who don't always have someone looking in on them.
The First Friend’s Breakfast has been a regular weekly Friday event at Denny’s in Laurel for several years. This is one of New Day’s most successful programs for the homeless and vulnerable men and women of our area. Breakfast and a Bible message are enjoyed by all.
Hank Crosswhite, who started this breakfast meeting in 2013, leads this group. What began with a few homeless or formerly homeless men meeting each week to pray, study the bible and share a meal. The homeless and vulnerable women joined the group in 2017 and the number attending each week has grown. The attendance averaged 40 people each Friday during the first quarter of 2018 and 474 meals were served during that period.
This is a place where those who are broken, find new friends and people who care for them and help them to feel better about themselves and begin healing their brokenness. Many of the people now come more for the fellowship and worship than just a meal.
