Mission: To advance the professional employer organization industry by 1) promoting a set of professional practices that address financial, legal and ethical performance; 2) educating members, regulators, legislators, consumers, and suppliers; 3) promoting the adoption of consistent state and federal laws and regulations; and 4) promoting a favorable industry image.
Programs: Government affairs: national association of professional employer organizations (napeo) lobbies on behalf of its membership at the state and federal level to secure favorable legal and regulatory certainty for the peo industry. Napeo promotes the adoption of consistent and comprehensive state laws similar to napeo's model peo legislation. Napeo promotes a set of commonly accepted professional practices that address financial, ethical and legal performance. Napeo deploys grassroots lobbying efforts among its members to complement professional lobbying efforts. Napeo keeps members informed of relevant regulatory and legislative developments and initiatives.
member education: napeo's seminars and conferences provide education and networking opportunities to professionals in the peo industry, helping to promote best/professional practices and advance the industry as a whole. Napeo's annual conference (871 attendees in 2016) is designed for c-level executives and department heads, and features educational sessions, interactive discussions, committee and board meetings, and a trade show where more than 90 industry suppliers promote their products and services. Napeo's peo capitol summit (224 attendees in 2016) is geared toward peo owners, hr and compliance professionals, and legal advisors to the industry. Its educational content addresses legal, legislative and regulatory issues. Napeo's members also meet with their elected officials during this meeting to raise awareness about the peo industry and to promote napeo's federal legislative agenda. Additionally, napeo hosts specialty seminars with specialized content for cfos, risk managers and ceos. In 2016, napeo's risk management seminar was attended by 136 people, the cfo seminar featured 94 attendees, and 82 participants took part in napeo's ceo forum.
membership services/publications: napeo's member services include publications and online resources designed to keep members apprised of peo-specific professional business practices, government affairs initiatives, industry trends and association events. As part of its effort to educate members, napeo publishes peo insider, a monthly (ten issues per year) magazine that features technical, operational, legal and business articles. Napeo also distributes weekly enewsletters that communicate media coverage of the industry as well as regulatory and legislative updates.
external communications: napeo's marketing and communications efforts focus on raising the visibility of the peo industry among the general public, policymakers, and the media, helping peos increase their market share by positioning the industry as a solution provider for small business, and ensuring that napeo effectively communicates with members and a variety of other audiences across a variety of platforms. Napeo accomplishes this through a variety of tactics, including research, brand/message development, advertising, and industry marketing.
