Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Christianity, Civil Rights, Community & Neighborhood Development, Economic Development, Intergroup & Race Relations, Race, Religion

Mission: In 1989, Dr. John Perkins called together a group of Christian leaders from across America who was bonded by one significant commitment - expressing the love of Christ in America's poor communities, not at arms length, but at the grass-roots level. An association was formed, and CCDA held its first annual conference in Chicago in 1989. CCDA has grown from 37 founding members to over 6,000 individuals and 600 churches, ministries, institutions and businesses in more than 100 cities. Our purpose is to strengthen existing Christian community development organizations, encourage new efforts, educate and mobilize others to get involved in Christian community development and sustain, enable and inspire those that are doing Christian community development. CCDA members are involved in a variety of activities from evangelism to developing housing, healthcare to youth and children's mentoring programs, job creation to homeless shelters. CCDA membership is very diverse both ethnically and socio-economically.
