Mission: Nami metropolitan baltimore is a 501(c)3 organization that empowers the lives of individuals living with mental illness, their families, and communities through education, support, and advocacy. All education and support programs are provided free of charge to the public.
Programs: Nami metropolitan baltimore,inc. Provides free, evidence-based programs that educate the community, including individuals, family members, caregivers, and professionals about issues related to mental health and co- occurring illnesses. These programs include monthly informational meetings that focus on specific issues and are open to the general public; educational programs about recovery from mental illness and substance use conditions and the available resources to assist in that recovery; advocacy training; and in our own voice, an outreach program that trains and empowers individuals living with and managing their mental illness to tell their stories in an impactful way, offering hope and opportunity.
nami metropolitan baltimore, inc. Provides exceptional support to families and caregivers of those living with mental health conditions. Courses, such as family to family and basics, offer information, resources,and coping mechanisms for those who live with an adult or a child with mental illness. Family support groups are peer-led and designed to offer ongoing support to family members and caregivers. Caregiver circles are peer-led groups for family members of a person living with the co- occurring conditions of mental illness and substance use. These programs are led by highly trained volunteers with lived experience. Additionally, nami metro engages students on college campuses and in high schools in anti-stigma education and activities and works with elderly residents of assisted living facilities living with mental illness.
peer support is a basic value of nami metropolitan baltimore, inc. Peer- to-peer education classes are designed to provide information and relapse prevention; and connections support groups provide ongoing support to individuals managing their illness. All of these groups are led by trained peers with lived experience. Nami metropolitan also provides a help-line that offers information and referral services to individuals with specific needs and requests. In addition, nami contracts with franklin square hospital, harbor hospital, and northwest hospital for in-patient peer support.
