Mission: The mission of the multicultural aids coalition (mac) is to mobilize communities of color to end the hiv/aids epidemic. Mac works to ensure high quality, accessible prevention and treatment services for people living with hiv, at high risk for becoming infected, or closely affected by the disease. Mac also supports broader community efforts to eradicate conditions that fuel the epidemic, including substance abuse, lack of health care access, homelessness, incarceration and oppression based on race, ethnicity, gender and sexual orientation.

Programs: Prevention and education offers prevention education and intervention services to persons living with hiv, and to those at high risk for hiv infection. Mac focuses on behavior modification through prevention groups and one-on-one sessions. The programs target gay and bisexual men of color, men and women of color at risk due to past or present injection drug use, women partners of men at high risk, female sex-workers, and people from sub-saharan africa.

peer support (casa iris) is a community-based organization whose mission is to create a supportive environment in which latino(as) can empower themselves with a pro-active approach to their disease. Casa iris offers culturally and linguistically appropriate peer support and referrals to hiv/aids infected and affected latino(as) in the greater boston area. Casa iris provides a safe and confidential environment that respects the rights and opinions of everyone. Casa iris provides support groups for individuals living with hiv/aids, referrals to other health and social services, individual peer support, skills building for consumers, and volunteer opportunities.

research - the organization collaborates with other organizations to facilitate research projects focused on communities of color in the areas of access to quality services and high-risk behaviors. Community health nexus - community health nexus is mac's technical assistance and capacity development program. It is designed to enhance the management and/or programmatic performance of other community organizations. Mac offers tacd through workgroups or individual meetings. Services are intended for senior managers, board members, program directors, program managers, leaders in the faith community, and medical providers. The mac offers cultural competence training to providers who serve communities of color at-risk for hiv infection or individuals who have hiv infection. Our cultural competence training is built on the understanding that cultural competency is an ideal we strive toward; it is a journey and not an end result.
