Moving Forward Towards Independence is a three-tiered transitional and community living program for adults with learning and developmental challenges. Residents begin their journey living in a house with other residents. When they are ready, they move next door into an apartment and later they move out into the community. The program teaches independent living skills of all sorts from cooking and cleaning to money management and from dealing with social drama to developing healthy relationships. My daughter, who has multiple invisible medical conditions and learning differences, has been in the transitional program for almost three years. She lives in an apartment, has a job she loves, and has grown much more than she could have while living at home. Moving Forward Towards Independence is a Great Nonprofit. It has a wonderful staff. It understands its clients’ needs, and it provides the structure and support that my daughter, and others like her, needs to truly move forward.
