Yes - the animals are adorable and there are lots of great things that have been done for community members, but very poorly hidden beneath all of that ruse is the truth of the poor living conditions of all the "sanctuary" and rescue animals on the property. ALL of the animals are living in conditions that are far from boast-worthy - extremely cramped, overcrowded, and unsafe. Within my short time working there, several animals managed to escape - cats, pigs, cows, etc due to the poor fencing and their unhappiness in their environment that is provided. The founder is a horrible leader and does everything under the facade of looking good for donors, but once those donations are acquired they vanish and don't even seem to get used on the animals. Overall this is an extremely sad organization and the animals deserve so much better.

First let’s address the name - Jameson Humane (formerly Jameson Animal Rescue Ranch). Humane? This organization is far from humane for animals or people.

Animals are kept in small enclosures stripped of their ability to practice their natural behaviors. This would be an acceptable situation for emergency rescue with quick rehoming to appropriate facilities with proper space and care but animals are kept in small enclosures for years on end and a large number of these very social animals are kept in solitary confinement. Jameson Humane brags about taking in millions of dollars in donations, where is the money going? Clearly not to the animals. I encourage you to visit in person to see the condition of the animals / environment and where your money is clearly NOT going.

Nearly 40 staff members have left this small organization of less than 15 over the past 3 years. The working conditions are toxic, abusive and staff are prevented from providing proper care for the animals. Before you support this organization with your hard earned money, you may want to read about the treatment of the people and the animals on Glassdoor.com dating back to 2018. There are two common denominators since 2018, the founder and the director. Before you donate, ask them why their organization is so toxic and why animals are still living in poor conditions after millions of dollars have been donated for their care.

Note: The founder of Jameson Humane opened a fancy wine studio last year - Studio 1299a. Hmmm.

As a former employee of several years, I can attest to the severe dysfunction and chaotic culture stemming from the top. The animals' enclosures are all too small and falling apart (not to mention mold, rat infestations, electrical problems, water issues, holes everywhere, flooding, poor fencing, no central air/heat inside, etc.). Most of the animals aside from the cats are living by themselves in isolation. They all seem sad and unhealthy (leader overfeeds treats and unhealthy snacks) and without any room to roam. One dog has lived there for many years in her own small shelter, and no one stays with her overnight. The leader has started and stopped capital campaigns multiple times - meaning there are never any proper updates to the property - to the detriment of the animals. Most of the animals never find new homes because of the controlling/hoarding nature of the leader. The employees are not treated as trusted leaders in their fields and are constantly criticized, bullied, and disrespected. The leader calls, texts, and emails at all hours of the day and night and expects the same from her employees. 38 employees have quit in 3 years (on a team of 10-15 at most), which is an unreal amount of turnover. This leads to duplication of efforts, no consistent transfer of knowledge or protocol, and the constant starting and stopping of programs and services. Not to mention a severe lack of tracking for any meaningful data to be used to drive said programs and services. Volunteers are over-relied upon for required duties like feeding and medicating the cats, vaccination clinics and the mobile veterinary unit clinics, working events, horse and farmed animal care, etc. The public should demand more from an org whose mission is to benefit animals, people, and the planet. This org has failed and will continue to fail as long as the leader is at the helm.

Animal spaces are way to small for animals to live long term.
Founder has ridiculous expectations and is constantly walking around with random human food for the animals despite most being overweight due to lack of exercise.
Way way too many cats in small spaces, essentially hoarding.

DO NOT SUPPORT THIS ORGANIZATION. The animals under Jameson’s care deserve safety, love, attention, and support. But Jameson’s leadership (specifically its founder) is a sham and does NOT have the animals’ best interests in mind, and NEVER WILL.

Jameson’s physical space is way too small for the sheer volume of animals it houses. The pigs, cows, sheep, horses, and cats live in tiny, cramped spaces with no space to run around, have zoomies, or even have privacy from their animal neighbors. The pigs live in a corner of the property that is filled in with concrete and only a thin layer of soil, preventing them from rooting and digging, both essential pig behaviors. And yet, the founder actively tampers with any attempts to get an animal adopted out, particularly the farmed animals. She will come up with any arbitrary excuse to not let a perfectly suitable and vetted family adopt one of the animals. That way, she can continue to control every aspect of the animals’ lives, overfeed them tortilla chips and junk food, and show them off as “ambassador” animals at donor events. After every event, the animal care team would convince her to not bring the animals out again because of how stressful it was for them. And yet, as soon as another donor event rolled around, she would insist on bringing them again, forcing them to interact with crowds of loud, excited people for hours. You can imagine how stressful that would be for an animal living in “sanctuary”.

The animal care team members were consistently treated passive-aggressively, and told to get more done in less and less time. The organization draws in more than $1 million a year, and yet we were told there was no money for a few minutes of overtime when we had to help move animals due to intense flooding making their spaces uninhabitable. My teammate and I skipped lunch on several occasions to make sure the animals were safe and got some enrichment time. No matter how many times I patiently explained how overweight many of the animals were, and how that was negatively impacting their longevity and quality of life, the founder would not stop giving out huge handfuls of tortilla chips, apples, and worse every single time she walked by the animals.

I honestly do not understand where the million dollars go every year. There are several actual animal sanctuaries in the area with much better spaces and more animals, that operate on much smaller budgets.

Every single fence line on site was haphazardly built by random “contractors” or untrained staff members. As such, it felt like I spent more time repairing fences and gates than actually caring for animals. At one point, the cows broke through the fence into the backyard of the house on site, breaking plant pots and eating everything. The founder refused to do anything, claiming she didn’t have the money for fencing. It took a month of the cows breaking the fence more and more every day, threatening to break through the other side into the parking lot and then the busy road, for her to finally agree to get the fence fixed.

The organization does a lot of good, namely community outreach and low cost/free veterinary services. But the animals housed at Jameson do not deserve the lives they live there.

Jameson’s founder/president cares more about making sure everyone is adhering to the vegan mandate on site than actually providing quality care for the animals. As long as she stays in a position of power, Jameson will never be a good place for animals.

I have been a volunteer with Jameson Humane for about eight years? I have done everything from senior dog walking to pet food pantry, which supplies, much-needed food within our community, helping with animals on the ranch etc.
Jamieson is so valuable in the community with all of the programs they offer. I admire all of the hard work they do to keep pets with their owners, as well as helping animals without Holmes, animals in medical need, etc. it is extremely valuable!

Jamison Humane is nothing short of amazing! I have volunteered since early 2023, and will volunteer until my feet fall off! Even then I'd find some way to stay and help these animals that have done nothing to deserve their lot in life. And my experience so far is that everyone, volunteers and employees, feel the same way. I mostly help with horse care. There are a dozen horses to care for everyday, each in different stages of recovery from neglectful or abusive situations. There is nothing better than watching these beautiful magnificent animals slowly turn around and begin to trust human beings when pretty much all they have known is 'unkind' hands. Volunteers are appreciated and told everyday how much we matter. The financial needs can be endless but they all do amazing work with what they have, there is no waste here. They encourage everyone to be vegan or vegetarian, they are very environmentally conscious. Jameson Humane is nothing short of amazing and I am so grateful for them.

I have never seen a group of people that care so much about the animals, and people. Every time, I enter into the Jameson Ranch, I am transported to a place that promotes unconditional care for animals. The management staff, and other volunteers I have met have always been very respectful and kind. It's a gem of a place.

I have been volunteering at Jameson Humane since I retired just over a year ago. It has been a wonderful experience. I mostly spend my time socializing the kitties, but also do some dog walking and adoption events. The volunteer opportunities are extensive and the scheduling is flexible. The staff is excellent and they make sure the volunteers feel appreciated. Of course the best part is the cats themselves. So many sweet kitties that welcome attention and affection. This organization has a lot of heart and I expect to have a long tenure here.

Volunteering at Jameson Humane is an incredibly rewarding experience. The environment is filled with kindness, and the animals receive exceptional care. Being a cat socializer, I eagerly anticipate my weekly visits, knowing that I'm contributing to the well-being of these wonderful animals. I had the privilege of adopting Rain, a precious kitty who endured significant burns. The support and assistance Rain received during her recovery from Jameson are something I hold dear and will forever be grateful for.

The commitment of the Jameson team to animal welfare is wide and deep. As is their determination to engage the community in understanding the importance of animal welfare and engaging in helping our society transition to a more just and sustainable relationship with other sentient beings. As is their commitment and creativity in helping those who have slipped through other social safety nets to find help for companion animals. One more "as is" -- as is their engagement with partner organizations to further shared goals.

Jameson has raised the bar for animal welfare awareness among communities that have the means to act but may have lacked the motive. For companion animals, and significantly, for traditionally "farmed" animals, their vision holds great promise.

I started volunteering in the midst of the pandemic in 2020 when help was truly needed. I launched my volunteering by helping with the packaging and delivery of food to families who we’re having a difficult time feeding their pets during this challenge time. I soon added working with the cats to my volunteering and was amazed at how the health, well being, and comfort of these darling critters was managed every day. The outdoor catios for both the younger and older cats are unbelievably wonderful and are maintained like 4 star hotels. I was also fortunate enough to become part of a program for capturing neutering/spaying and releasing many feral cats from open fields bordering two large Napa resorts and have been helping with daily feeding of those released cats for 18 months. The expansive cat fostering program is also continuously active and creating additional space for more and more cats in need has been nonstop. From there I was trained to groom horses, brush cows, socialize pigs and chickens, feed baby goats, and massage sheep with severe arthritis. Add to that assisting with the focused care of a baby lamb with damaged, non-functioning back legs, through exercises, massages, cart walking, etc. All of this is overseen by an outstanding, skilled and dedicated staff including visits from a cadre of veterinary specialists on a regular basis. The rehabilitation of animals who come to Jameson in very poor condition through constant attention and special care has been nothing less than miraculous and heartwarming. Neglected and abused animals have had their lives changed, often get adopted into new homes, or live out their lives in a spectacular and caring environment. It’s an honor to be a part of such a unique and amazing organization. There is truly nothing else like it.

I have been donating to this organization for several years and this year upon retirement I started volunteering. All animals are treated with respect and love including the most healthy diets, ongoing medical tracking and care, and a focus on comfort and living comfortable and fulfilling lives. I am so grateful for Jameson Humane. My kids and I are welcome! We volunteer by socializing cats as a family. What a gift Jameson has given my children in allowing them to feel responsible and able! My five and eight-year-olds learn valuable life lessons while having fun. Saying goodbye to a beloved cat who went to her fur-ever home, finally making a friend with a very shy feline, and discovering that a new senior arrival still has some kitten-like play in him are just a few sweet moments we cherish.

Everyone at Jameson is so helpful and caring. If it’s the founder herself, a seasoned employee, or a volunteer in another animal care area, people answer questions and look out for each other. This is a place where my children feel empowered and heard. I appreciate that.

Jameson works in the community WITH other non-profits in the community. Where I used to live, I was so disappointed since certain animal rescues wouldn’t work with other ones because they didn’t like how they did this or that. Understandably, we all have different values, but Jameson looks beyond grudges and small differences for the greater good for the animals and their people!

With fire season eerily getting longer, Jameson looks out for its animals and volunteers. They are equipped to evacuate and have cared for their fosters and volunteers displaced by the fires, too.

Jameson loves its animals and their people. I’m proud that we’re a small part of the great things Jameson Humane accomplishes.

I have been a volunteer at Jameson Humane since December 2018. I primarily work with cats, but am at the ranch often enough to see the what is happening with the dogs, farmed animals and other creatures that are lucky enough to find themselves at Jameson. The team truly cares deeply about every animal in the Jameson family and goes above and beyond to ensure the most positive outcome possible.

One thing that has stood out to me about Jameson is the willingness to collaborate with other rescue organizations. It has been my experience that animal rescue groups do not always "play well with others" so I have been really impressed by Jameson's spirit of collaboration and desire to create sustainable solutions to animal welfare's many challenges.

Over the past several decades, I have worked for many animal rescue groups and shelters to foster, adopt, and rescue animals in need. This work, while urgent, necessary, and very gratifying, is very specifically focused on individual animals. Jameson Humane is uniquely different. Based on an understanding that rescue and adoption work is always needed, their goals expand to embrace a global collaboration to benefit ALL life: animal, environmental, and human. Their starting point is rescuing, fostering, rehoming, offering training assistance, and assisting seniors and their pets, and then their goals expand further to provide disaster preparation, animal welfare education, and training youth to become compassionate caretakers of our environment.
It's not just about saving animals for Jameson, which, in itself, is a most compassionate and honorable goal. Jameson goes many steps beyond that. Recognizing the power of animals' sentience to, in turn, help US is truly understanding the power of coexistence. Jameson is not just in this movement to help the animals, they are working to focus the power of One Sentient Family working together to save us from the universal damage we have wrought.

Right after the 2017 Napa fires, I learned about Jameson Humane and that they needed volunteers with horse experience. I began my weekly feeding, cleaning, grooming, walking and loving the rescue horses, especially after they moved to the Cuttings Wharf ranch. It has been a lot of work, but such a joy to help these old or abused or neglected horses. There are also cows, pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, pigeons, dogs, cats and rabbits on 5 acres. Monica Stevens, founder and director, continues to expand to include free spay and neuter, vaccinations, chips and feed to the needy, high school and other programs for the public, disaster preparedness programs and coordinating with other rescue groups. This is a caring and deserving animal rescue charity.

Jameson Humane has a standing history of helping seniors in our community. I got my dog vaccinated at one of their clinics and got a voucher to get her spay. Now they are helping me get my dog’s teeth cleaned by giving me a grant and helped me with other organizations to cover the cost. When you call they are helpful and really take time to listen. You can tell the people who work there care which is not something you see very often these days. People usually dismiss our senior citizen community, but the times I’ve called they’ve been so nice. I’m glad they are part of our community.

We were so lucky to find a last minute walk-in appointment with Jameson Humane for neuter/spay for our kitty. Crystal, the program coordinator, was so efficient with sending and having me fill out paperwork online the night before, had everyone waiting in the parking lot for safety and keeping me apprised via text of how Bub was doing throughout the day. The vet performed the surgery, chipped him and clipped his nails... she might have even given him a little massage for all I know! Crystal continued to check in the next day to see how he was doing. Also nice (from what I could see from my car!) was that the vibe at the ranch was very anti-clinic, with a bird sanctuary, cows, horses... thanks Jameson Humane for fixing Bub!

After retiring 3 yrs ago, I knew I wanted something to do out of the house. I knew I wanted to do something with small children and/or animals. Since I am already babysitting 2 of our 5 grandkids 1X per week, the natural direction was to look for a volunteer job with animals. Jameson Humane is a natural fit for me. I thought I wanted to walk dogs or hang out with the cats, but help was really needed with 15 of the 65 bunnies that had been rescued from a Napa neighborhood. What a treat! I clean their pens and hang out with them to get them accustomed to humans so they are more adoptable. Yes, I love visiting all the animals on the Ranch, but I must say that the people that run this non-profit are fabulous! I hear their appreciation for my volunteer work everyday I am there and they are all just good people doing what they can for animals. Nothing but 5 stars for these folks! My name is Chloe Faris and I have been a volunteer at Jameson Animal Rescue Ranch since February 2020. Jameson not only rescues, feeds and cares for the animals of our region, it cares for the people too. Personally, I find Jameson Rescue Ranch a respite from the calamity and stress that I have experienced in our society lately. I go to Jameson Rescue Ranch to take care of the cats living there. It is a calm and serene place where my heart can rest. It truly feeds my soul to play with, feed, brush and snuggle with our feline ranch friends. People in our community visit the ranch to meet and eventually adopt these kitties. It is such a fulfilling process to see these precious animals go to their forever homes.

One Jameson program in particular that I recommend to everyone I know is the Senior Citizen Pet Wellness program. This program assists Seniors and their animals by providing supplies, food, care and exercise for their pets. Seniors thrive when they are able to keep their animal companions with them and Jameson makes sure that can happen. My next step in my volunteer career with Jameson is to train and help out with this valuable program.

The staff at Jameson are AMAZING! They are kind, hardworking and truly care for all animals. They are always saying, "Thank you so much Chloe for all your hard work for our kitties." I feel so fortunate. It is really 'I' who should be thanking them for providing a place where I feel so great and the animals benefit too. HUGE hugs to Monica Stevens, Director and the whole staff for creating such a 'Heaven on Earth'.

I am so excited to share my story as a volunteer with Jameson Animal Rescue Ranch (Jameson)!
I am so proud to share, I am the very first volunteer as a foster for Jameson Animal Rescue Ranch since 2014, and my life is changed! My daughter asked if I would keep an eye on a small dog while she was at work, that had been rescued by Jameson; with hesitation I said yes for the day, then two days, then three, then, well I'm still keeping an eye on Annie, 6 years later. (I adopted her) Yes, I adopted her, after Annie and Jameson stole my heart! The love, empathy, and support they continue to provide for Annie helps keep her healthy, safe, and at home with me; I would otherwise be forced to surrender Annie as I live alone and on a very low income. I'm not lonely any longer since Annie found me and I continue to volunteer for Jameson's Senior Citizens' Pet Wellness program, visiting other senior citizen's to deliver pet food and supplies for their animal companions and walk their dogs.
I am in awe as a volunteer and witness to all the amazing work Jameson does every day, providing solutions to keep more and more animals healthy, safe, and at home. Thank you Jameson for providing a happier life for me, Annie, and Annie's brother, Bear who was also a fostered dog from JARR. My heart is forever for the animals and Jameson!
Sincerely, Ruth Hust

I have been volunteering at Jameson Humane since December 2019.

I started out socializing the pigs. What I learned is they are very smart, quite quick to learn, and food driven.

Then I helped out with the cats. I quickly realized that while some cats are aloof and take time to warm up to me, each has his own personality.

Then I was grooming the horses. Big and small. Old and young. Very inquisitive and loved the physical attention.

What I noticed overall, was the level of care Jameson crew gives these animals. They had established routines, thought about enrichment programs to stimulate good behavior for all the animals they have at the ranch.

I am now working in the senior program helping out walking a dog for an older person that isn’t mobile enough to excercise her own dog. I am happy that this program is available because otherwise, they may not be able to stay together.

As you may know, our area has been hit hard by the devastating wildfires in Northern California for several years in a row. This has had a severe impact on the local communities of Napa Valley as a whole. Jameson is handing out dog food to the local community who needs help with feeding their dogs.

As the saying goes, “It takes a Village.” Is an understatement. Together we can all make a difference. Whether we are paid employees, volunteers or able to send a donation, every bit is needed to help these animals not only live their lives but thrive and be loved. They deserve it.

Both dogs had/have very different needs and Jameson has gone above and beyond with what we need to support these dogs in addition to the loving environment we can provide for them. Nothing makes us happier than being able to support fosters, whether it be a puppy needing some behavioral training before its forever home, or us being the last home for a senior with medical needs. Our current frosty-faced resident has enriched our lives as much as we have hers, and financially we would not have been able to do it without Jameson. Communication with staff is SO easy, prompt, and kind (I share tons of photos with them!). They genuinely care about the well being of every one of their animals in addition to also supporting the community needs for animals from the constant emergencies in our areas which includes feeding pets that no longer have homes due to fires or owners who lack funds due to COVID and also finding shelter for displaced pets all of sizes and types during fires. We look forward to helping hopefully many more senior dogs in the future.

I've been a volunteer with Jameson Humane for several years. I love the work that they do to ensure that ALL creatures, great and small, are loved and cared for. Their presence in our community is invaluable. The team involved have hearts as big as Texas and are compassionate about Jameson's mission to create a better planet for animals and humans.

I learned about Jameson Humane during the 2017 wildfires in Napa and Sonoma. I signed up to help with the 6 horses rescued from the Tubbs fire. After the horses were moved to the Jameson ranch on Cuttings Wharf, I continued volunteering by feeding, cleaning, grooming, walking and loving the many horses rescued. There are also pigs, cows, rabbits, cats, dogs, pigeons, and chickens rescued and all animals receive the very best care physically, with veterinarians and from the staff and volunteers who dedicate themselves to these animals. The kindness and love given to each animal can be seen in the animal’s positive response.

I have been working with this animal rescue organization for the past six months. They are doing an outstanding job in the rescue, care and treatment of animals that otherwise would not have a chance. I am proud to be part of an organization that cares so deeply about the well-being of all the beautiful creatures living on the ranch. The animals’ full needs are met on a daily basis with compassion, grace and love. It has been inspiring to be able to help in some small way to enhance the lives of these precious animals.
