Nonprofit Overview

Causes: International, International Relief

Mission: The Miguel Pro Mission's goal is to help bring about social justice and peace for the people of Juarez, one child, one student, one parent, one family at a time. Miguel Pro Mission believes that social justice can be achieved. There can be peace. That hope is not lost. We can make a difference in the lives of each child, student, parent and family we touch. We will not change the whole world but we will change the world of those we touch.

My time spent with Miguel Pro Mission was such a gift. What an amazing experience of not only preaching but truly living the gospels.

What a privilege it was for me to spend a week at Miguel Pro Mission! I guess this was a case of "seeing is believing." I was able to stay at one of the Centers for Women supervised by Hermanas Petrita y Angeles. I was very impressed by all that these good sisters do. First and foremost for me was the way they helped empower women in the neighborhood. Not only have they assisted with home improvements like ecological toilets and green houses to raise additional food for their family, not only have they given financial assistance for their school children, they have also helped these women find a voice, learn to support one another, grow in their faith committment. The bible sharings were a true sharing of life and of faith.

I am a director of formation for the Capuchin Province of Mid-America. Accompanying me were three postulants: young men who were interested in joining our Capuchin-Franciscan Order. We were able to spend time helping to build an ecological toilet, and also spent a day finishing a green house. The interaction with the women and their families made a strong impression on all of us.

Daniel Schell accompanied us. He drove us around to the other projects assisted by Miguel Pro Mission: other women's centers, clinics and schools. I hope in the future we can repeat this experience with our young men in formation to religious life.

I only recently joined the board of Miguel Pro Mission. I have been so impressed with the help that this mission is giving to the families in Juarez, Mexico. We hear so much about the aid and assistance that America sends to Africa, but what our neighbors. Let us help the families so close to our country. Let us help them help themselves to overcome the poverty that exists in this country.

The services offered in the mission cover a breadth of life skills to the parents and the children in Juarez. Please contribute what you can.
