Review for Miguel Pro Mission, Broomfield, CO, USA
What a privilege it was for me to spend a week at Miguel Pro Mission! I guess this was a case of "seeing is believing." I was able to stay at one of the Centers for Women supervised by Hermanas Petrita y Angeles. I was very impressed by all that these good sisters do. First and foremost for me was the way they helped empower women in the neighborhood. Not only have they assisted with home improvements like ecological toilets and green houses to raise additional food for their family, not only have they given financial assistance for their school children, they have also helped these women find a voice, learn to support one another, grow in their faith committment. The bible sharings were a true sharing of life and of faith.
I am a director of formation for the Capuchin Province of Mid-America. Accompanying me were three postulants: young men who were interested in joining our Capuchin-Franciscan Order. We were able to spend time helping to build an ecological toilet, and also spent a day finishing a green house. The interaction with the women and their families made a strong impression on all of us.
Daniel Schell accompanied us. He drove us around to the other projects assisted by Miguel Pro Mission: other women's centers, clinics and schools. I hope in the future we can repeat this experience with our young men in formation to religious life.
