Causes: Community Coalitions
Mission: The caucus provides a forum through which the chief elected officials of the region cooperatively develop consensus on common public policy issues and multi-jurisdictional challenges. With a foundation of collaboration and consensus-based decision-making, it serves a number of functions for its partner organizations and local governments.
Programs: Public sector energy efficiency grant program - collaborated with the illinois department of commerce and economic opportunity to provide technical and grant assistance to various units of local government in northeastern illinois for energy efficiency upgrades of public facilities and equipment.
housing - continued to work with partner organizations to provide technical assistance to three inter-jurisdictional housing collaboratives representing 34 municipalities. Provided technical assistance in developing implementation strategies for housing plans for four municipalities in dupage county and five municipalities in lake county. Developed a regional housing solutions website to assist all 275 municipalities in the chicago region as they work to adopt their own housing policies and plans. Continued work with four municipalities in south cook county on a pilot project to increase code enforcement capacity.
powering safe communities - in the second year of this program, provided technical and financial assistance to 25 local governments to implement various public safety projects. Funds were awarded from the commonwealth edison company.
