Mission: The mission of Maywood Fine Arts is to provide affordable quality arts education and fitness to children in underserved communities in Maywood and surrounding communities.
Programs: Arts & fitness programs: 807 non-duplicated students participated in mfa's classes in dance (385), tumbling (297), music lessons (189), visual arts (168), karate (87), drama (37) and kid's choir (12), many taking classes in more than one discipline. In december, drama students performed for an in-house audience at mfa in december and the children's choir performed for the annual december holly ball for chicago children's charities. Dance students participated in mfa's holiday dance performance "in the spirit" to a public audience of nearly 1,000. Visual arts students held an exhibition of their work at mfa in december. Music students performed in 7 mini-recitals held in december. On march 25, at trinity high school in river forest, mfa 82 ballet students performed "sleeping beauty" as part of classical ballet for new audiences (cbna), with a special performance on march 24 for school children from maywood & chicago. Mfa piano students competed in a piano musicianship competition on march 11. Drama students and the choir presented their final programs on may 6 at mfa. Music students performed in 5 formal recitals on may 22, 25, 26, and 27. An exhibition of student art work was presented may 16 and 17 at concordia university in river forest. The dance school ended their year with 361 dancers performing "a whale of a tale" on june 10th & 11th at guerin prep in river grove. Mfa summer programs included tumbling, music lessons, visual arts, karate and a dance intensive program.
