Mission: The maryland and pennsylvania railroad preservation society is a pennsylvania nonprofit corporation chartered in 1986. Its purpose is to support and promote the history of the maryland and pennsylvania railroad and the village of muddy creek forks.
Programs: The society promotes awareness and appreciation of the role of the maryland & pennsylvania railroad in the economic and cultural development of rural communities. To this end it maintains and operates 4 miles of the original ma & pa railroad main line, preserves the village of muddy creek forks (a historic district on the national register of historic places), and supports active archival and oral history programs. Train rides are offered on summer sunday afternoons and the a. M. Grove store, mill, and grain elevator are opened to the public with costumed interpreters. Approximately 2,900 visitors were accommodated in 2014.
