Mission: The lone star chapter is a chapter of the national lupus foundation of america and is dedicated to improving the quality of life for people affected by lupus through research, education, support and advocacy.
Programs: The lupus foundation of america lone star chapter is dedicated to improving the quality of life for all people affected by lupus through programs of research, education, support, and advocacy, serving 204 texas counties, from amarillo to texarkana, dallas/fort worth, austin, lubbock, san antonio, the valley, and el paso. In the 2016-2017 year, the organization: responded to 1,140 inquiries for assistance. Welcome packets, physician referrals, lupus facts and available programs and services lists were sent to lupus patients and/or their family members. Educated 2,255 individuals through 25 educational programs, including lupus education to underserved populations, annual lupus conference, and teleconference series. The chapter also provided workshops, webinars, and made presentations to groups about lupus. These programs are designed to educate lupus patients, family members and caregivers. The programs are conducted by physicians, trained volunteers, and staff. Provided electronic newsletter, "lupus news," issued monthly and distributed to over nearly 18,500 constituents with up-to-date information and news about lupus. Held 12 monthly lupus support groups throughout the chapter area, serving 604 individuals. Support groups are conducted by certified volunteers and staff. Conducted public education at 55 community and corporate health fairs. Conducted social media outreach with regular postings, including facebook 5,000 followers, twitter 1,531 followers, and 204 instagram postings. Held the "walk to end lupus now" event in five cities: dallas/fort worth, austin, san antonio, killeen, and lubbock. The event reached more than 6,500 walkers and provided lupus awareness and education. The event also provided important revenue to support the chapter's programs and services free of charge to constituents. The chapter served over 18,000 individuals through direct services funded by these events.
