I have been flying charity medical flights for over eleven years, with the last year-and-a-half as a member of Grace Flight America. This organization probably does more for more people, with less funding, than any other charity organization I know. In spite of reductions in outside funding, and the necessity to reduce staffing, Grace Flight provided more charity flights in 2010 than in any previous year - over 2,500 missions in all. As an active volunteer pilot, I see first hand the effect this has on our passenger/patients. There are people alive today who would no longer be living were it not for the free air transportation to medical facilities provided by Grace Flight pilots. The missions coordinated by Grace Flight are as rewarding for the volunteer pilots as they are beneficial to our passenger/patients. I don't know of any other charitable organization that does so much with so little and provides such a win/win opportunity for both givers and receivers.
