Causes: Education, Two-Year Colleges
Mission: Provide student scholarships and grants, and raise philanthropic resources for los rios colleges.
Programs: The los rios foundation provided support to college departments and programs during the 2016-17 academic year. These resources allow college faculty, staff and administrators to improve existing programs, expirement with new and innovative approaches and support student success. The los rios foundation works in partnership with the four los rios colleges, american river, cosumnes river, folsom lake, and sacramento city college and the harris center for the arts to provide private philanthropic support by serving as the vehicle through which individuals and organizations may invest in the colleges and its students.
the los rios foundation provided direct student support through scholarships to 732 students in the four los rios colleges in the 2016-17 academic year. For many students, this support can mean the difference between dropping out of college and successfully completing a degree, certificate, or transfer program. Scholarship awards range from $75 up to $6,400 and are contributed by generous individuals, corporations and employees. Scholarships cover the costs of attending college, textbooks, transportation and living expenses for students with a high level of financial need and/or outstanding academic performance. The los rios scholarship program supports many deserving students including foster youth, veterans, single parents, and at-risk low income populations. In addition, $35,190. 65 was awarded to 29 students with emergency needs such as sudden homelessness through the los rios student emergency fund.
the los rios foundation receives many gifts of goods and equipment in support of academic programs. Gifts include equipment that provide real world, hands on opportunities such as an ambulance for the emt program at cosumnes river college, top-of-the-line diesel trucks for the diesel/clean diesel technology program at american river college, pianos for the harris center of performing arts at folsom lake college, and airplanes for the aviation program at sacramento city college. Many of these gifts come from generous industry partners who benefit from hiring the skilled employees who receive their education at the los rios colleges
