Causes: Arts & Culture, Performing Arts Centers
Mission: The Lincoln Theatre's mission is to enrich the lives of community members and beyond by presenting a diverse array of artistic experiences, supporting other charitable organizations, and increasing awareness of local heritage and culture.
Results: The Lincoln Theatre celebrated its 90th anniversary in 2019, and since its historic restoration and reopening in 2004, it has become the epicenter of arts & culture for the region. Its history as one of the few remaining theatres to feature Mayan-Revival style architecture makes it one of the most fascinating and unique performance venues in Virginia. It has become the primary economic driver of tourism to Marion, and is most well-known for being home to Song of the Mountains, a public television show with the distinction as 'The State Television Show of Virginia'. In addition to being a rental house, the organization creates a yearly programming schedule featuring a variety of performances, community events, and educational programs for youth in our area. The Lincoln depends on financial support to help continue and expand arts opportunities in our region, a region in which many residents live below the poverty line and have limited access to the arts.
