Programs: Guardianship - the program provides support for those deemed mentally incompetent by the probate court and that do not have any family willing or capable of making sound decisions for them. Life essentials trains volunteers and employs staff to take on this critical role as guardian. Guardians work with their clients to ensure the client has the best possible life and lives in the least restrictive environment. Guardians function as the advocate and ensure the safety and well-being of their clients. Being a guardian is a significant responsibility; one that protects the rights and dignity of a fellow human being. In addition to fulfilling the role of guardian, life essentials provides supports to family members and/or friends willing and capable of becoming the guardian for a loved one. In fiscal year 2014, 301 clients received 1,626 interventions. Volunteers provided services valued at $9,912 not included in service hours.
chums - the program is intended to enhance the quality of life for chums clients by equipping them with tools that promote self-management of their mental illness. Life essentials staff facilitate the program by combining education, networking and behavioral activation services. Participants, ages 50 years and older, learn common themes that contribute to their recovery and skills to help maintain their independence, bond with people in similar situations and take back control of their lives. In fiscal year 2014, 27 clients received 851 hours of service. Volunteers provided services valued at $963 not included in program expenses.
peer academy - the peer academy program is a 56-hour peer support training series providing clients of mental health or alcohol and drug treatment services the opportunity to work or volunteer as peer supporters or recovery coaches. Participants learn how to use their unique recovery experiences to guide others through their recovery journey. This program serves the community as a catalyst to increase the behaviorial healthcare workforce and elevate access to patients in need. In fiscal year 2014, 11 clients received 616 hours of service.
