Mission: The Learning Center of North Texas believes each individual deserves a community that honors the competencies and potential of every learning style. Now in its ninth year of operation, The Learning Center, provides practical, affordable, and accessible resources to increase the learning success of individuals with learning differences and disabilities. Learning disabilities - conditions of the brain, such as dyslexia, that affect a person''s ability to take in, process, or express information - affect up to 20% of the population. Thirty-five percent of children with learning disabilities drop out of school. (National Longitudinal Transition Study) Fifty percent of juvenile delinquents have undetected learning disabilities. (Educational Service Testing Report) Learning disabilities adversely impact not only the affected individual, but his or her community, as well. Statistics show that many persons with learning differences and disabilities are undiagnosed. Studies also show the dramatic outcome of appropriate interventions, especially if LD students receive sound instruction and support at an early age. Accurate diagnoses of learning differences and disabilities must first be made. The Learning Center''s educational evaluations, Schools Attuned professional development for educators, community resources, and college and adult services address these needs in the North Texas area.
