Mission: The lcld, inc. Is an organization of corporate chief legal officers and law firm managing partners dedicated to creating a legal profession as diverse as the country we serve.
Programs: Membership drive and meeting held to promote diversity in the legal profession. There were 226 attendees at the annual membership meeting in 2016.
to strengthen the legal pipeline by expanding opportunities for diverse first-year law students. This program gives students the rare opportunity to work side-by-side with attorneys and other legal specialists in our organizations on legal issues and will provide experience and create an opportunity to develop strategic partnerships with law schools that support our initiatives. The lcld law school mentoring program is a comprehensive initiative for first-year law students from diverse backgrounds based on the principles of legal excellence and personal involvement. More than 2,100 mentors drawn from lcld member organizations have volunteered to work with individual students during their law school careers, building personal relationships. 777 mentors were enrolled in the program for the 2016 year.
the lcld fellows program is designed to increase diversity at the leadership levels of the nation's law firms and corporate legal departments by identifying high-potential attorneys from diverse backgrounds and placing them in the path of those who can teach them to lead their organizations. Each fellow embarks on a learning program that includes in- person conferences, virtual training on the fine points of legal practice, peer-group projects to foster collaboration and build relationships, and extensive contact with lcld's top leadership along with managing partners and general counsel who volunteer to discuss professional experiences and setbacks. 231 fellows participated in 2016.
in 2016, 113 diverse, high-potential, early career attorneys at lcld member organizations participated in the lcld pathfinder program. The goal of this program is to provide pathfinders with practical tools for developing and leveraging internal professional networks through relationship building skills, foundational leadership skills, and an understanding of career development strategies applicable to both in-house and law firm practice.
